The short turn around is at this point a defining part of how the show is made, and I sincerely doubt they'd change it.

I doubt they would too. I just think it's a reason why they've struggled with episode consistency doing a full season continuity style like they have for the last 2 seasons
The GoT one.
http://southpark.cc.com/blog/2017/05...-for-season-21Mark your calendars! South Park will return for its 21st season on Wednesday August 23rd at 10pm on Comedy Central! This season’s schedule will be similar to last year’s with 3 dark weeks throughout the run. Take a look at the schedule below!
god i wish it was now with all this trump shit going on
I thought they wont bash Trump since it would be way too easy?
There was an interview with Bill Simmons recently where they talked about it. They want to drop most of the political stuff, but didn't have a choice last season. The plan had been to just put Mr Garrison back in his role as school teacher following the election, but the real world forced them to keep the story going.
So even they didn't see Trump winning lol. Again, always glad they are prepared for when things go alt-right.

I can understand not wanting to go after an easy target but there's so much material lol. And I can see Cartman joining the Alt Right, possibly getting punched in the face Spence style, etc. Garrison giving Russia the secret recipe for KFC or something.

They mostly would just prefer to do their own thing and not be pulled into the "trap" of doing what everyone else is doing. Like they said, realistically the goal for the entire last season was tied into Force Awakens and Ghostbusters, but they were dragged into making it about Trump after election night.
I'll need to rewatch that season. I missed TFA references

It's explained pretty well in the article. Peel back the Trump stuff and the entire season is basically them shitting on the reviews for Ghostbusters and Force Awakens that Stone talks about.
Interview with Esquire and Matt and Trey said they are going to completely ignore Trump the entire season. They didn't want to fall into the trap that every other comedy show is all about Trump. Said they wanted to get back to more stories about the kids being kids.
I'm okay with this.
I can understand the want to do that. They've never really been the type to jump on the bandwagon and that's what it would come across as at this point.
They talked about this at the end of the last season. Said something along the lines of even with how quickly they put out their episodes they still couldn't keep up with the stupid shit he does lol
