Fire TV / Roku / Apple TV - Live TV streaming WITH existing FiOS sub

    Hey guys,

I'm trying to figure out how to use my existing FiOS subscription to stream live TV in our office via Fire TV / Roku / Apple TV. I need access to CNBC and probably the Golf Channel.

There isn't a comprehensive answer to how/what works with any of these devices without paying SlingTV or some shit to do it for me.

I already pay an arm and a leg for internet and cable from FiOS and would rather save the $25 to spend on Diet Cokes for the office.

What are my options here? I'd prefer the path of least resistance but if it's a bit of fiddling about, that's fine.

    Thanks in advance.

Would it be easier to simply stream it on my computer at work and Chromecast it?

Does your FIOS sub include a CableCard?

Just bought a Chromecast. Gonna cast with my browser and call it a day. Fuck figuring out the rest of this.

The likelihood that you could stream anything using a set top box is very low.

If you're currently able to stream it to your computer somehow, using Chromecast would be the simplest way.

If you wanted a more permanent/non-invasive way to do it, you can request a CableCard from your FIOS provider, buy an HDHomerun Prime tuner, then use an app like NextPVR paired with Kodi on a Fire Stick or something to actually get live TV where you want it. Should be noted, this would require a small "server" computer to accomplish.

Fair enough. It's easy though, and the expense is not huge, so if you change your mind..

I was thinking about it but the usage is literally just in my work office streaming CNBC only. I can't justify spending time or effort to bother with it when $35 for a Chromecast and clicking a button will solve it.

Thanks for that other solution though. I may use that for travelling.

My solution won't travel well. A CableCard is a set-top box replacement, so it won't work on the go. Just FYI

Does FIOS not have a web streaming app or from their website? I know with Comcast/Direct TV/Dish Network etc you can login with your provider info and live stream just about every channel.

If that's the case, wouldn't setting up a network capable media server connected to the TV work then? Actually any computer with wifi on it to connect to the internet and an hdmi out to the tv would do the trick. More expensive than a chromecast though.

Streaming has its ups and downs. If the performance/experience is not good enough, there's other things that can be done relatively cheaply.
