We don't know if Jack died or not... but there are some signs he may have.

From what we know of Jack's backstory, he was hired by the EITC to transport 100 slaves, whom he freed. Beckett caught him, branded him as a pirate, and burned his original ship, possibly with him aboard. At some point, possibly as the ship burned and sank around him, Davy Jones approached him and he made a bargain to resurrect his old ship as the Black Pearl, and that's why Davy Jones later sets the price for his soul at 100 (for the 100 slaves he freed). He may have taken lethal wounds (and then simply not died to them due to his deal with Davy Jones), because by the time we see him in the first movie, when he takes up the Curse of Cortez in the climax, his "true form" revealed by moonlight is already quite undead looking, despite Barbossa's implication that it was a gradual process for the rest of the crew.

In addition to all that, there's the kraken and Jack's resulting stay in the Locker. Was that death? We don't know. He DOES say "Three of you have tried to kill me, and one of you has succeeded." but then they break him out of the Locker. So... it's a little unclear whether he's ever actually died or not. Plus, what role does Will Turner play in this? He's supposed to be the ferryman for those souls lost at sea, and we already know Davy Jones could grant a reprieve from Death. Is Jack maybe trying to find Will to cut another deal, like he did with Davy Jones? Maybe Salazar is Death, or sent by Death, trying to prevent him from escaping yet again. If so, why is he not hunting down the other immortals, like Jack's dad?

edit: I don't remember Stranger Tides very well so maybe there was more I missed in there.

Unless they've been recast, its unlikely Jack will track down Will; neither Bloom nor Knightley are credited at the end of the trailer.

Yeah, I was referring to the death of being eaten but the Kraken. I assumed he was referring to Knightly when he said someone managed to kill him.

Anyway, I was alluding to the idea "death is coming for him" shouldn't be that big a deal to him since he's been there- done that sort of thing.

4 was alright. 1&2 being the best. 3 was a huge letdown.

And imdb shows a one-line summary as "Captain Jack Sparrow searches for the trident of Poseidon." Might be good might be bad, should probably be fun enough either way.

After 3, I just assumed a DBZ-ish approach to life/death in the series. Ie., Life and death are just two different states/worlds of existence, and if you have the know-how or the right guide or whatever you can cross back and forth between them. So dying isn't always as final as it usually is.
