Canucks fired their coach
Don't worry, they'll keep Linden around due to sentimental reasons like we did with pretty much every 80's Oiler
Whoever makes the playoff thread, here's a pic for the first post!
That's pretty sweet.
Something wrong with that picture. The shark and eagle are not choking on something.
What the hell, why is the canadiens mascot a lamia?!
It's a ghost, I assume in reference to Ghosts of the Past, with Montreal's legendary history, but I'm just guessing.
That makes more sense
Where is the playoff thread? Someone do work
Ownership is the biggest problem. Benning is good for drafting and development but at the same time he has to make moves to keep the team "competitive" because ownership has no appetite for a full rebuild. Gillis left scorched earth behind him as he traded away most of the Canucks picks and prospects to get rentals for repeated attempts to make runs in the playoffs. He was also terrible at drafting so the Canucks are now dealing with problems that started back in 2010.
It will likely take several years before they get back to the playoffs. I don't mind Benning but he's terrible at contracts and to some degree has traded away draft picks when he didn't necessarily need to. This may have partially been under duress from ownership to make more moves for now.
I gotta agree. I think ownership was a little delusional as to how competitive the Canucks were and kept pressure on Benning to try and bring in pieces to keep aiming for the cup (hi2u Eriksson). But it felt like there's been a definitely flip switched at some point (late last season, sometime early this season?) and Benning has finally started making some pretty smart moves.
Great at drafting, but he drafted Jake Virtanen instead of Nylander or Ehlers.
Obviously I don't follow the Canucks super closely. It just seems like he really has no clue when it comes to being a GM and he'd be better off in the scouting department if his strength truly is drafting and development.
Can someone not terrible make a playoff thread...bonus pts for Olli gifs
GINMME A MIN TO WRITE STUPID CORNY SHIT DOWN AND SURE
I was gonna do it but then realized while writing that I don't watch the western conference enough to make the jokes.
LA just fired Darryl Sutter and Dean Lombardi.
Dean Lombardi and Darryl Sutter relieved of their duties for the LA Kings. Luc Robitaille named President. Rob Blake VP and GM.
Edit: Beaten. Here's the press release: https://www.nhl.com/kings/news/aeg-a...gs/c-288666790
