the lakers were definitely kind of a "fake" superteam, cause there wasn't much strength there besides shaq and kobe. but really i think it's understated at just how good that detroit team was. they didn't really have any offensive stars, but i'm not sure there's been anyone in this league as impactful on defense since prime ben wallace's. really though once they added sheed, who was an all-star two-way player, they became pretty scary.

However, and I think for the most part this can be universally agreed, Detroit sports (excluding hockey) is generally dismissed as any real threat. It's been like that for a long time which is mostly responsible for the Detroit vs. Everybody mentality. That Eminem guy and that one song may have something to do with it too but I doubt it.

super teams that are like a super hero vs a super villain match up at the end are always good for ratings. parity is good for competition but boring for viewers. can't think of any sport where there is an exception

I would say racing sports, such as F1. You probably dont need parity across all teams involved, but at least 3-4 with decent options make it way more interesting than if its just 2, no matter how super hero vs super villain story there is. NBA should feel the same, but I think because its just human players even if the difference is huge, the general public cant really point it out. However, in these racing sports it usually is just the machine that makes the biggest difference and that drives people nuts because its easier to see.

The Pistons 30 for 30 was an amazing watch. I miss late 80s and all of the 90s basketball all together. I can remember watching NBA on NBC on my 13" TV in my bedroom when I was a kid and jamming on my door backboard when they did on TV.

The Pistons 30 for 30 was an amazing watch. I miss late 80s and all of the 90s basketball all together. I can remember watching NBA on NBC on my 13" TV in my bedroom when I was a kid and jamming on my door backboard when they did on TV.

Maybe someone will agree with me that mid 80s to mid 90s is Golden age of NBA.

in fairness it don't take much to be super when you have 2 of the top 5 players in the league. they were thin as the Malone injury showed, but they took out arguably Duncan's best ever San Antonio squad that had won the title the year before and would win the title the year after, and also by far the best team Minnesota KG ever had after he linked up with Cassell and Sprewell. as you say it's just that that Pistons team was that good, best defense i've seen in the post-Jordan era.

These POINT GOD and CP3 to the Spurs rumors are hilarious

And Pop would need to work some magical voodoo (along with Tony Parker "medically" retiring or finding some team willing to eat LMAs contract) with salary, but CP3 to Spurs is technically possible. BUT, it will never happen because Paul not taking the Supermax deal he negotiated for is a bad look for the NBPA.
