Discord Bots

Can anyone explain to me in simple terms what Discord bots might allow me to do? I seem to be missing something here but I can see they could be great.Happy for people to point me at sites with the pertinent info. Are there any you'd recommend for a group which predominantly (but not exclusively) plays FFXIV?

I think my issue is far more basic than that. There's a whole community of developers who have developed bots which integrate with Discord. I kinda get it but kinda don't. So if you add the bot to Discord as this guy demonstrates https://youtu.be/2YO96GFBSLw what kind of functionality can you add to your Discord server? I get that this will depend on the bot, but does anyone use something interesting and how does it work?

For example, in that video, the guy recommends the bot from here https://aethex.xyz/ I feel like I'm missing something really basic about how these things operate. I see these commands https://aethex.xyz/documentation/ref...ation-commands .

I get that the Bots need permissions. But how do you get these things to run? Is it the case you just type in the commands into the text chat in Discord on your server?

Yeah you just use !commands to get the bot to do stuff. Like we have one that gives you accuracy caps if you type !accuracy a9s or w/e, or you do !weather <zone> to get in game weather for a few days.

Can you have channel specific bots or are they server specific? There are some I'd like for our granblue channel in BG discord, but they'd only be useful for our specific channel.

Let's hope Discord's team see this thread because the last time I checked their bot doc I went TLDR.

So it seems BG discord, as a whole, has at least one new bot. Given that we didn't do anything in #granblue to enable the bot, it would seem that it is server-wide.

I also don't, at first glance, have any interactivity with bot settings for our channel, but as I only have so many permissions I suppose that makes sense.
