Season 2 definitely felt more like a sci-fi show than a cyberpunk show. I think once I started viewing it from that lens from half-way and on I started enjoying it way more. And though I wasn't thrilled with Mackie's performance, I also don't think he got nearly as good material as pretty much every other character. I thought Kovacs was pretty boring this season story-wise.

I think they primarily cast Mackie based on the type of sleeve Kovacs was given in the storyline (a military-grade sleve) and Mackie definitely fits a military-type role. But it felt like it was Mackie playing a military type character and not Kovacs.

While I did miss Joel Kinnaman as Kovacs, I gave Mackie’s performance a pass after I realized that he is playing the character 30 years after season 1. I do agree though that Trepp and Poe stole the show and Dig was a nice addition.

Just finished S2. Poe was definitely the shit. Definitely curious about what's in store for the future. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but apparently they skipped book 2 from what I understand?

The first season already went pretty far off the rails from the original book with how much they changed and expanded on Quell's character and Kovacs relation with her(and replaced the Jimi Hendrix hologram with Poe). You are right that it does take a lot of the plot threads from book 3 tho.

I've read that Netflix cancels most shows after s2, so we'll see if that impacts here. Then again, the intended purpose is to reduce on actor costs and the concept of Altered Carbon let's them skip that for most of the crew...
