I wanna support but I have the feeling this will disappoint in the end.
Well, you talked me into it. Hope it's as good as the promises and we have a hit.
Remember No Man's Sky or the Ouya before hyping yourself too much.
Ashes of Creation’s Kickstarter has successfully funded this morning, bringing in a grand total of $3,271,809 US out of its $750,000 goal with almost 20,000 individual backers contributing, thus making it the largest Kickstarter for an MMORPG ever.

The concepts sound great, but I'd want to see it in execution before I get too hyped for it.
The team will be at Pax west this year to show off the game. Backers will be able to try out the pre-alpha version of the game on Dec 15th.
This video show the progress they have been up to.
This does have potential. Kinda reminds me of GW2.
But yeah between how for every success story there is for an MMO and a dozen or so failures and how badly hyped kickstarts failed miserably in the pass, I'm going to approach this with a wait and see attitude.
Apparently SJWs across the internet are getting utterly buttblasted by this game's promotional pax material which includes a hat that says "Make MMOs Great Again"

While I'd say Trump's ruined the phrase and people are idiots to employ it in today's polarized times, it's rather pompous to claim one's unreleased game would rejuvenate the genre. Though, maybe they're hoping for that whole "Bad PR is good PR" angle. :/
I'm pretty sure it's just satire and people are reading way too much into it just so they can be offended by something. Couldn't give any less of a fuck about this game but seeing people say shit like "I wouldn't feel safe playing this MMO" makes me laugh.
Welp, sub-based = hard nope.
Ashes went into friends and family alpha. They are calling it Alpha zero. Here is some game play footage.
Ashes also revealed their classes in the game.

TheLazyPeon released an overview on YouTube a month ago titled, "Genuinely The Most Exciting Upcoming MMORPG - ASHES OF CREATION." I can't post the link because of my low post count, but I think it's worth someone checking it out and sharing the link here. The game is looking good, and while it's promising a lot--the creative director, Steven Shariff, and devs are transparent and making regular progress toward meeting their goals. I suggest watching some recent interviews with Steven as well.
I saw it and I'm sort of interested, but at the same time concerned about PVP being forced due to nodes and no dungeon finder/etc. to make it easier to find people.
EDIT: Here's the vid.
Indeed, I understand the sentiment over node PvP, but I'm willing to bet that the economic metropolises essentially become protected strongholds by the players due to interests in keeping investments safe. If not, maybe there will be "relaxed RP" servers where PvP doesn't occur at whim. Thanks for posting the link!
