    Commentary

Ark is as annoying as ever and Antlion picked up a dangerous AOE maximum HP gravity attack since we last saw him, but neither of these guys is really that much of a problem. They're both vulnerable to the same set of status effects (Silence, Slow, Blind, and critically Sleep); Silence doesn't matter against Ark and only prevents Fira from Antlion, but the rest are all very useful ailments against both bosses. If you have a capable mage team, you can just Sleep lock both of them to death. If not, you can Slow and Blind them and aside from Ark's Photon-Propeller Wind bullshit neither of them should give you much trouble.

    Commentary
    • Meltigemini uses the single target Bio on its first turn and Virus Smoke on its second turn.

There really isn't much to say about Meltigemini. You're not going to be able to stick Regen for long against it, but on the other hand you can Blind its one physical attack into uselessness and load up your magical defenses, and it's weak to two fairly easy to exploit elements (fire and holy). This should be a short, sweet fight. Heck, you can probably just cast two Terra or Hope RW OSBs and kill it.

    Commentary

Kuja switches to Weak phase at 75% HP. Kuja switches to Trance form and Very Weak phase at 50% HP and uses Gigavolt as an interrupt. Kuja switches to Critical phase at 25% HP and uses Gargantavolt as an interrupt.

Kuja has only a token melee attack in his base form, but once he Trances he picks up the Death's Thunder attacks, which are also physical. Most of Kuja's elementally-typed damage is thunder elemental, but he does have both Firaga and Blizzaga single target in all four phases. Prepare your defenses accordingly. Aside from that, this is just a DPS race. Kuja gets arguably more dangerous every 25% (you could say that Very Weak is actually less dangerous than Weak, maybe, since the added attacks aren't that bad), so if you can't just steamroll him blindfolded, save your damage SBs for the second half of the fight.

    Commentary

You fight the bosses one at a time, in the order Amdusias -> Abaddon -> Shell Dragon. Amdusias starts in Ground state and enters Flying state as an interrupt when reduced to 80%, 50%, and 20% HP. It remains in Flying state for 2 turns, then enters Ground state again. Amdusias uses the single target version of Bio on its first turn. Abaddon uses Whirlwind Cut on its 1st and 4th turn after being reduced below 70% HP. Shell Dragon uses Earth Shaker on its first turn and then every 5 turns thereafter in Default state, then again on its first turn and every 3 turns thereafter in Weak state.

All of these bosses have mixed offenses, so make sure not to neglect either type of defense. You can rush through Amdusias and Abaddon (and probably should for Abaddon -- 540% ranged physical AOE is brutal) pretty quickly by exploiting their weakness, but be extremely wary of Shell Dragon's Weak phase! His Counter Rush will utterly cripple your team if you attack into it without thought. Use Soul Breaks, Summons, Reflected magic, or Retaliated attacks once it hits 50% unless you want your entire team chain-Paralyzed.

50% chance: Shock (NAT: deal 540% physical damage to the target with the highest % HP)

    Commentary

Beatrix begins the fight with Reflect active. Beatrix uses Climhazzard as her first action after passing 80% HP and again after passing 40% HP. Beatrix uses Seiken Stock Break as her first action after passing 60% HP. These are NOT interrupts, they take her normal turn. Not sure what happens if you DPS her hard enough to pass entirely from 80% to 59% or 39%, etc, within the span of one of her turns.

Both targets here are primarily physical damage, with one magical attack to keep you honest. If you can afford the space for it, I'd recommend Protectga + Shellga + Full Break + Power Breakdown. If not, you can gamble on not having Shellga. Getting dark damage through on Beatrix is a bit rough, since aside from Ultima Weapon the best sources of dark damage are spells and get Reflected. Either bring a Dispel for her Reflect or go with an AOE or physical source of dark damage. Either way, I very, very strongly recommend killing Steiner, and making sure you get AOE Regen up to clear away the Sap he causes, before even touching Beatrix with anything but Breaks. It actually doesn't take that much damage to push her into Climhazzard range.

Event Quest Notes: If you can swing it, Kuja with auto-Doom RM and Dark Zone is a Godsend for this fight. Dark Zone will hit for 9999x2 just fine without the 30% magic buff from Memento Mori and the extra slot is worth its weight in mythril. He can bring Dispel to clear his own way against Beatrix, Protectga/Shellga to make sure your mitigation is fully covered, or the 3 star White magic AOE Regen to clear Sap. By the way, don't forget that Freya's default SB is AOE Regen! Saving that ability slot might just be worth bringing her. She can help with Breakdowns, too. EDIT: Cid Raines BSB as a RW makes this fight really, really quick and easy (though do remember to Dispel Beatrix before you start in on her).

35% chance: Shift Break (NAT: deal 240% ranged physical thunder damage to all targets, with a 30% chance to Slow and Sap them)

    Commentary
Zidane uses Steal on his first three turns, unless you push him to 80% or lower HP before then. Zidane uses Shift Break on his first turn after entering Weak state and every 3 turns thereafter while in Weak state. Zidane uses Stellar Circle 5 on his first turn after entering Very Weak state and every 3 turns thereafter.

Zidane is an asshole. Let's just be clear about that. He will Slow you + Haste himself, AOE Slow you, or Stun your party on a good 2/3 of his turns. All of his damage is physical, so don't bother with Shellga or Magic Breakdown. If you have a character with Mug Morale, using it will help your damage output and reduce his, but don't expect it to last very long. It's absolutely not worth Dispelling his Haste, both because chances are he'll just Steal or Mug your speed in a couple turns anyway and because Haste only actually cuts off 1/12th a second from his ATB charge time. It is probably worth bringing the single target White magic Haste spell, to fix people he Steals/Mugs; you might want to put it on someone other than your healer, though.

The key to this fight is to NOT DPS as hard as you can. His defenses aren't actually all that hot and he's got less HP than most U++ bosses, so it's entirely possible to push him from Default to Weak to Very Weak in the span of just a couple turns and he'll use Shift Break into Stellar Circle 5 into Shift Break and your party will be in tatters. Instead, push him to 80% to trigger Shift Break, then fix all your Slowed people. Damage him in a controlled manner, re-applying Haste as he Slows people, until he hits 50% and unleashes Stellar Circle 5 on you. At that point you should probably just bum rush him because his moveset becomes incredibly disruptive and going slow will probably get you picked apart by Slows and Stuns.

One really key thing to note: with the exception of Mug, all of Zidane's single target attacks are PHY, which means they can be redirected by Draw Fire/Gaia Cross and deflected by Retaliate. A Tauntaliate setup will make Rumble Rush into a non-issue and turn Scoop Art and Booster 8 into wasted turns (and a little damage to Zidane). You'll still have to deal with the damage and extra effects from Shift Break and Stellar Circle 5, but not having half your party Stunned is reason enough to bring Gilgamesh or another Tauntaliator.

Raines BSB RW completely destroys the CM, as long as you have a medica ready for Beatrix's climhazzards and remove sap.

Mastered CM with -1 damage medal with:

    Eiko - Curaja r5 / Protectga r3 / Doublecast / BSB
    Kuja - Memento Mori r3 / --- / Dark +30% / ---
    Quina - Full Break r2 / Power Breakdown r4 / Auto-Haste / ---
    Garnet - Curaga r5 / Shellga r3 / Healing +20% / ---
    Beatrix - Memento of Prayer r2 / Haste r5 / Auto-Haste / ---

    RW - Metamorphose

The last mob of U was a bit of an asshole, countering twice in a row with rush and using a third rush causing para procs on 4 of my party members, but won with full medals anyway. Had trouble with U++ with my phys team due to the mug bloodlust debuff making my damage suck pretty bad, but destroyed him in 1 shot with full medals after i switched to mage team.

He has some really annoying attacks. I tried a run where I used slow resist accessories and it didn't seem to help at all. I ended up running two hastegas to deal with it.

zidane can fuck right off, 3-5 turns in a row of guaranteed stun on 80% of your party might be the dumbest thing i've encountered in this game yet. mastered -1 for KO as i had three people dead at the end. wind imperil + alphinaud BSB was enough to close out the end before i got overwhelmed by damage as mitigation was falling off
    setup was:

    eiko - curaja/protectga, BSB
    selphie - curaga/haste, BSB
    alphinaud - valefor/dispel, BSB
    zidane - powerchain/lifesiphon, BSB
tyro - full break/power breakdown, SG

wind resist accessories all around, OK RW

For anyone who doesnt mind cheesing, zidane always uses his non-damaging steal for his first 3 actions, allowing for easy hit and run.

I love that there are no buffs to steal but he steals them anyway.

Was looking forward to a 9 event since my 9 team is stacked, Zidane, Vivi, Eiko and Beatix BSBs.

Amdusias > Abaddon > Shell Dragon were super annoying...

Amdusias was easy, but Abaddon would always one shot everyone except Beatrix with that Wind Blade move - finally I decided to time things a little better, had Meltdown, and Stellar Circle 5 ready to go, let Vivi and Zidanes ATB fill, let Beatrix kill Amdusias, then Opened with Meltdown, and Stellar Circle 5 - poor bastard didn't have a chance to do anything. Then Quina opened Shell Dragon with Full Break, he countered with an AOE that hit everyone for 2500 each, Beatrix Lifesiphoned, and he countered again killing Zidane, and Quina, but complete missing Vivi, Beatrix, and Eiko. in the end everyone was dead except Vivi from all the counters... so annoying, but since Quina got Full Break I kept going.

lost 2 medals to KO, and 1 to Damage.

Not hard... just super annoying Counters and that Unavoidable AOE One-Shot

Beatrix / Stiener were easy with this group

80 Quina - Full Break, Power BD - Mogs Master - Frog Drop
    80 Kuja - Memento Mori, Dark Zone - Scholar's Boon +30% Weakness - Darkstar
80 Beatrix - Gaia's Cross, Banishing Strike - Knights Charge - Knight Protector
80 Eiko - Curaise, Protectga - Dr Mog - Prayer of the Lost
    99 Zidane - Lifesiphon, Powerchain - Sword +30% - Stellar Circle 5.
RW - Sent Grim (which I didn't need)

Stiener first, Memento Mori and 2x Dark Zones with Scholars Boon killed him (well, lifesiphons and breaks too).

Beatrix next... unloaded; Full Break > Memento Mori > Powercharge > Knights Protector > Darkstar > Stellar Circle 5... died so fast only moves she used were back to back Climhazards - I'd say we were never in any danger, but we spent the entire (10 seconds of) the Beatrix portion of the battle at 1HP. If she had countered anything, of if Steiner had managed to sap Beatrix she woulda died. Odd thing was, as soon as I put up Gaia's Cross, they kept missing Beatrix completely and the only damage we took was from the two Climhazzards.

Almost same group for Zidane - swapped Quina for
99 Tyro, Full Break, Power BD, Mako Might - Sent Grim
    and swapped Kuja back to
80 Vivi, Chain Blizzaga, Meltdown - BLM Doublecast - Proof of Existence
    RW - Vessel of Fate

Timed Vivi to use Vessal of Fate as Zidane was using his last (3rd) Steal, to override the Slow.
Beatrix Gaia's Cross to draw fire, whenever she would get confused, Zidane would just hit her again and snap her out of it before her ATB gauge could fill so that was never an issue, the multiattackd filled her SB gauge fast!
Waited for the 50% mark and the 2nd Mug to have Vivi reapply Vessel of Fate. The entire battle he ONLY used Swiftspell until his own BSB was ready to go. Eiko used Prayer for the Lost the very first AOE, and then just kept using the AOE Mini-heal, Wayfarer's Hymm, to keep everyone topped up.

Eiko died right at the end when Gaia's Cross wore and she got targeted for quad attack, but still mastered, no medals lost.

Wtf at the Steiner/Beatrix fight. I've attempted it twice now, first time focusing Steiner, second time focusing Beatrix. And each time I get to about the 3rd round and Beatrix uses that move that reduces everyones HP to 1, than Steiner follows up with an AoE move literally back to back... less than a second between the two. How are you supposed to survive that? This fight is bullshit. This happened exactly the same order on both attempts.

I could have bought an 11 pull and have 1000 gems left over, but all I got was this silly title.

The best way to deal with that is take down Steiner, then work on Beatrix. Climhazard won't fuck you so hard since it is scripted to go off when Beatrix hits 70% and 30%.

You can actually burst her fast enough with Raines BSB RW that she goes Climhazard > Stock Break > Climhazard. And since Climhazard can't kill you (though the sap from Stock Break can) you shouldn't see a normal attack after that sequence.

I'm just kinda pissed that I drew Zidane OSB and the event is over.
