In search of a new series

Hello all and thank you for taking the time to read/ respond. I recently subscribed to Funimation to relive my childhood of some anime to finish up on and an old one I got to finally rewatch and actually finish the series was 'Yu Yu Hakusho' animation and dialogue is super dated but the premise and characters really sold it on me especially after season 2. Is there any other anime similar to this one in either premise or character wise?

Edit- i follow the main shonen manga / anime series in case anyone was going to suggest fairy tail/ bleach / FMA/ etc..

Definitely recommend HxH if you liked Yu Yu. Made by the same guy, so it has a similar feel.

Just be prepared for it to not have an ending. The manga has gone on hiatus many times over the years.

Going to check all of these out and that definitely is a bummer about it being on hiatus. I always have a strange sense of gratification and sadness whenever I finish a series I really enjoyed

Hiatus x Hiatus is definitely worth it. Great series.

And I'm going to be a weirdo and say watch the original + ovas and the newer version. Both pretty good in different ways

Gintama for sure, that anime has everything. You can die from laughter one minute then crying uncontrollably the next.

I'll second Gintama. It has a bit of a learning curve but so freaking funny, and the serious story arcs are some of the best you'll see in any show.

The first few episodes are a little rough around the edges but after that it picks up steam and keeps it going for 200+ episodes. So yes, I obviously third the recommendation. Oh and don't skip out on the movies either. The first movie is a retelling of a specific anime arc, but the second movie is a standalone story and a fantastic one at that.

It might be a bit hard to figure out but I'd watch Gintama in the order it was released. As in, the movies came out between certain seasons and there are some 4th wall breaking jokes as a result

Gintama is unique in that it probably has the best fights and serious moments of any of the "major" Shonen Jump series, and it isn't even a serious series.

When Gintoki gets his shit together and decides to serious the fuck up, jesus that show is fucking awesome.

    Attack on Titan
Sword Art Online (YMMV, I enjoyed it)
    Fate/Zero
Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works (Both this and Fate/Zero would be enhanced by reading the visual novel first, but it's not 100% needed.)
    Kill la Kill (fucking awesome)
Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic -> Magi: The Kingdom of Magic
Nanatsu no Taizai/Seven Deadly Sins (extremely shounen, it's great)
    One Punch Man
    Soul Eater

Will add a couple to the list. Don't limit yourself to just shounens, you'll miss out on a lot (sorry, not assuming, just basing it off your post.)

Also you may have seen most of these since they're mostly mainstream, but even if you get one new one out of it, hey.

-Code Geass season 1&2. (Season 1 is called Lelouch of the Rebellion, season 2 is simply called R2)
    -Darker Than Black (both seasons)
    -Gungrave
-Parasyte (this is one of my favorites in recent years)
    -Rage of Bahamut
    -Sword Art Online
    - Stein's Gate
    -Tokyo Ghoul (both seasons)

5thing? 6thing? Who knows with Gintama, but yes. Love how great it can do a serious arc, then go back to funny.

I enjoyed Fairy Tail and need to catch up on it.

Also another vote for Hiatus x Hiatus.

Thanks for who mentioned Hitman Reborn; need to catch that myself.

Tales of Zestiria anime is done well if you liked the game.

    Persona 4 anime too.

Yes of course, reading the manga for Gintama is just as good, if not better then the anime imho, although it's very nice to see certain things animated :D
