This is the first sandbox game that allows Mario to fully explore his world since Super Mario 64 on Nintendo 64 and Super Mario Sunshine on Nintendo GameCube. Mario jumps out of the Mushroom Kingdom and embarks on a journey through mysterious new places and new experiences, such as sailing between worlds aboard an airship and the ability to throw Mario’s cap. Super Mario Odyssey is scheduled to launch during the 2017 holiday season.

So that's pretty revolutionary for Mario.
Instead of gaining abilities from magic items, the hat lets him possess basically anything -- enemies, animals, random passers-by, some inanimate objects.
It looks like there may be hundreds of unique abilities. I'm sure they'll throw in a few secret OP possessable targets and make this real fun.

Mario = a crude ethnic stereotype.

His hat lands on a thing, projects him into it so he can use the thing's powers, and then leaves the thing unharmed when finished.
Kirby eats a thing to absorb its powers, and the thing is dead forever.

Just from this trailer, there looks to be way more things the hat can possess than Kirby has ever absorbed.

Collect all moons (of course you do them in different ways)


So is this game like Mario 64, where when you chose a world, you chose which moon you wanna aim for? Or when you enter a world it's Free for all (aim for any moon and stay in the worl as long as you want) and I understand that problem not 100% of the moon in world 1 will be available at start

It honestly sounds like a mix of both.

When you enter a world, the listed "target" is going to be your primary moon. Small things in the stage may change depending on what moon you're chasing. You can also deviate from that plan and get whatever moon you know how to nab.

Then additionally, like Mario Galaxy 2, you can go back to stages after a certain or amount of time as additional moons are unlocked for each stage like Meteor Coins were.

It doesn't look like you get kicked out of the stage after obtaining a moon like in 64 though.

I turned it on at a walmart the other day and saw it looked and felt like Super Mario 64 in my 15 second observation of running in a circle really quick, saw one early meta review online, and immediately purchased.
