Won’t stop me from buying, i’ve been hype for this for a long time.

Still buying it. Although I wish they would’ve just ditched four of the characters to focus on the rest. Sad to hear them confirm the stories, characters, and dungeon designs don’t get any better. The battle system is fun as fuck though and can carry the shortcomings of the game.
Plus I need to justify still owning a switch from time to time lol.
I’m sure you have.
Schreier's Kotaku review shouldn't be taken as gospel considering it's a good deal more negative than the generally very positive overall reviews, and he critical pathed what's intended to be an exploratory open-world JRPG in 30 hours, when everyone else is at 60+.
I G Blah gave it a stellar review, gushing about almost everything.
The only consistent thing is "no connecting story among characters." So this basically a SaGa game... Maybe they should have just called it Octopath SaGa and no one would be complaining
You misunderstood me. I meant exactly that. I was going by the GX review.
- Disjointed story-telling and lack of character relations? “It’s the players story to tell.”
- Repetitious gameplay and dungeons? “The game was designed to be played in short sessions.”
Lmao listen I get it. Some of you get particularly defensive for anything Nintendo. Spare me the mental gymnastics to brush off any valid criticisms.
As long as the game provides a fun battle-system with clever bosses behind an outstanding soundtrack I’m Gucci. Which thankfully sounds like this game has it in spades past the demo.
I'm not being defensive, I just felt you were cherry picking from the Kotaku review. I see you trying to point to specific lines from the GX review, but the vibe I got from Derrik's review is that the later chapters have more varied stories and dungeon structures from the early ones. He specifically differentiated from the early chapters where everything seems the same, to the later chapters where they all feel very different.
The company who shall not be named had a good review imo
Looking forward to Primrose and Therion the most.
OMEGALUL letting anything coming from Kotaku influence your decision.
Reviews are subjective because everyone is different... imagine that.
