I don't think it has anything to do with money. They probably paid a buttload for good actors and CGI for Spirits Within and it still sucked ass as a Final Fantasy movie.
Advent Children was better (I actually quite like it) but it's been pretty universally panned story-wise.
Honestly no matter what kind of money they put into a film/TV series it seems not to come out very good. But then again maybe it's changing. I haven't seen Kingsglaive yet so that might be an exception? And Brotherhood wasn't awful, but it wasn't a stand-alone story either, just a companion piece. If Daddy of Light is good I'll have to update my opinon on SE's film/series track record.
It's meant to be up today. Page is up, but no episode downloads (UK netflix, not sure about US)
Same for Canada.
There was a reddit post with the first ep, no subtitles though. ...but now that I found and checked the link it doesn't even play now.
Actually my bad...i just saw your reply, and then looked at my system clock. TODAY is 20th... when I made the post last night and also checked last night, it was 19th.
For some reason, I thought yesterday was 20th.
Just checked again though and it's still not up lol
I'll twitter them later.
New Trailer
It's still not on netflix and I'm not visiting the generic J-drama sites for it lol
Best part is when daddy of light covers his nips cause he's startled

Full-length film coming June 21st, 2019.
The movie will feature different actors since Ren Osugi, who played the father, passed away in 2018. Famous actor Koutarou Yoshida will take on his role. Kentaro Sakaguchi will play the son Akio Iwamoto.
Yoshida-san and the actors commented on stage on how the film will convey the story to a wider audience, as the original series was aired late in the evening in Japan. It’s also rather moving to think that it all started from one player enjoying the game.
