Like, I guess it's technically better than Dead Man's Chest.
This is the most random comparison and I love it. I'm going to start using Dead Man's Chest as my standard for many different things from now on.

Ok, my bad, I've been saying Dead Man's Chest, but I meant Dead Men Tell No Tales.

I have not even seen it yet and I posted the thread. Worst reviewed movie of the summer so far according to a article on RT. Currently at 16%. I'm probably going to go see it anyway because I'm stupid.. The theater chain near me has $5 movies all day on Tuesday.

The amount of money they spent on advertising too, lol. It was so much more in your face than anything I've ever seen.

There's got to be some money laundering involved in flops, no? Insurance scams maybe?

Universal invested a LOT in to this movie, they are trying to launch a new film shared universe based on the old school classic monsters. It appears to be off to a rough start.

After two weeks it only made about $60 million US with a reported budget of $125 million. Granted it's made plenty back by now because of foreign markets(sitting at about $300m now) which is what RLM was guessing a big goal of their's was. Still, for something they're trying to make a cinematic universe out of not a great financial foresight.

Not only that, according to wiki the next movie is Bride of Frankenstein(2019) which was said earlier, but the ones with screenwriters attached are Invisible Man, Creature from Black Lagoon, Van Helsing and Wolfman.

I'd only have ANY remote interest in seeing one, maybe two of those. Universal probably isn't going to lose much money over this because of foreign markets, but they're not going to gain anything near they were hoping for.

300 mill on this is barely breaking even I think.

They went ALL out on their marketing budget, easily another 150-175 million.

    Oh.. and one more thing.

Honestly? I don't know if it would have been worse or better had he not been so controlling. Tom Cruise may be a weirdo in real life but he is NOT a bad actor nor a dumb one. He picks his roles pretty well and most of his movies have been pretty good quality.

I think the biggest issue is they were more concerned with making a whole series before they even made one good movie. It's almost like the director and guy in charge, Alex Kurtzman just made this same mistake with his previous bomb Amazing Spider-Man 2 when he tried to make a sinister six universe, which worked out just about the same.
