Tbh I don't even care about Perlman. Del Toro monster stuff was where it was at. The 2nd one particularly had a lot of cool looking shit.
I even liked how he did the dark elf royalty peeps.

One thing they need to get rid of in this one is that stupid fire girl. That chick drives me insane.

Mike Mignola has a more limited role compared to the previous series. Instead of being deeply involved in the production, he is just there to keep the film from losing it's focus.

I’m a weird kind of co-executive producer. I’m not actually sure what my title is, but unlike the del Toro movies, where I was active in pre-production and design, I’m not doing that this time around. When the decision was made to do another movie, I got involved, basically saying, ‘If you’re going to do that story, don’t do this, or that, change this, and that.’ I helped to steer it. Christopher Golden and I did write a couple of drafts of the screenplay and got it on track, and then the decision was made to do a reboot. I really just get questions about how things work, and while I’m not doing a lot, I’ve been talking with the creature-design guy and the makeup guy to get the look of Hellboy and his hand, and things like that.

    https://www.theguardian.com/film/201...y-whitewashing

Actor Daniel Dae Kim has thanked Ed Skrein for “championing the notion that Asian characters should be played by Asian or Asian American actors” by dropping out of a role in the new Hellboy film.

Skrein quit the reboot of the comic-book adaptation earlier this month after his casting as Major Ben Daimio, a character who was drawn as Japanese American in the original comics, prompted accusations of whitewashing. In a statement the actor said he was stepping aside “so the role can be cast appropriately”.

I get it but I'd like Ed in more roles though.

I got it, at first, but now thinkin, from the sounds of the article he took the role then gave it up. Why take it in the first place? Did he take it and only then find out he was portraying an asian? Did he get the role then turn it down "elegantly" after catching flack for it?

Not gonna lie, the more we, as fans, assume them, as actors, have the same information about these characters as we do then it's already an L on our part. Until told otherwise from Ed's mouth or publicist, he didn't know anything about the character and none of the "controversial" qualities or nuisances were explained to him. He took the role like, "fuck yeah, I got me a job finally bitches!" and kept it pushing until told about it.

OP updated with official release date and the rest of the cast. Story is based off of The Wild Hunt arc from the comic book.

I mean, it honestly looks good, so I'm not sure why it feels wrong to me. Maybe because the Hellboy series was already good and didn't need a reboot and you could have made all this content with the existing universe (which seems to be almost identical to this one). Maybe because we lost the art of del toro. I don't know.

    Will still likely see it.

The style and tone seem kind of muddled.

The extremely generic dialogue they decided to use as narration doesn't help.

  17. #37

Yeah I have the same feeling. It just doesn't have the same feel. Action looks good. Hellboy seems good. I think part of it is it feels like it's going to be a "fish out of water" story with Hellboy which doesn't feel right and already kind of blew a load showing his demon form. It also doesn't seem to have that Lovecraftian theme the original had, though that could just be how the trailer is shown.

Well I just lost the game.

Surprised they showed so much comedy in the trailer though. I thought this was supposed to be a hard R with the blood and gore and such.
