This is going to be a tough movie for me to see. First two movies I ever saw in a theatre were Transformers and Top Gun, with my dad.

Hyped for the movie, but will also probably be a mess at the end

Theatre near me is doing an early showing, this is far and away the oldest crowd I've seen for an opening night to a movie.

It's deserved, it's really really fucking good.

The in-air/in cockpit stuff is incredible cinematography, this movie is almost entirely practical effects and it very clearly shows, the visuals are amazing. It is far better out of the cockpit then the original was (which tbf was honestly quite bad). Less homo-erotic then the original was as well, tho I guess that's personal opinion if that's good or bad.

Also Jennifer Connelly is still astoundingly attractive.

But the real question is whether or not beach volleyball is as good as the first

It's football on the beach this time, not volleyball

I wasn't planning on seeing this opening weekend but today my Mom called me and she got free tickets somehow in IMAX (apparently there is another imax around here I don't know about) for herself and several guests so I guess I'm going. ^^; I don't even know if it was shot in IMAX but this is the kinda movie that would definitely benefit from it.

It was fully shot in IMAX, they mounted a shit ton of IMAX Cameras all over the F18s they used for it.

Aren't those large/fucking heavy to fit on a plane? I'd like to see the eventual behind-the-scenes regardless when it hits blu-ray.

There's some interviews floating around about it, it was a new kind of IMAX camera developed with Sony. 6 mounted inside the cockpit and 4 outside

Not going to post anything that needs spoilers. If you are a fan of the original you are going to LOVE this!! Just go see it ASAP! This is the movie to beat this year.

Edit: Oh and the different IMAX we went to.. hooooooooly shit!! My ears are still ringing. XD I could feel it in my chest.

It was daaamn good indeed. Despite being an aviator myself the original Top Gun was just an “OK” or maybe “good” movie for me with some solid action and style (well, I do own a pair of those Ray-Ban aviators) but Maverick way exceeds the original in every aspect. Everything from the action scenes and other technicalities to the character development, music are top notch. Thinking hard I can’t find a single point I was disappointed with the film.

This is the movie that marks the grand return of the theatre post pandemic. Don’t miss it on IMAX.

In terms of being a visual spectacle this was right there with Mad Max Fury Road.

The last half hour is just pure ecstasy

I thought the same thing watching the scenes at the end. When practical effects are done right, it just elevates the movie to another level.

    Great movie was great.

Yup, great movie and yes Jennifer Connelly is smoking hot in this.

Saw this last night, absolutely loved it.

    Spoiler: show
How they handled Iceman and Val Kilmer's real life health issues was amazing. Loved that he was the first person shown as well in the montage credits and second billing in the credit scroll behind Tom Cruise

And yes, Jennifer Connelly is still very, very, hot.
