As someone who enjoyed the Budokai trilogy more than the later entries with all the weird 3d shit, this looks straight up my alley.

I'm alllll onboard. Now we have a 2D fighter to go along with the Tenkaichi styled 3D.

DBZ about to make Toriyama even more scratch than he already has. He's gotta be loving life right now. Barely has to work and dear God, the royalty checks.

    Press Release
After the success of the Xenoverse series, it’s time to introduce a new classic 2D Dragon Ball fighting game for this generation’s consoles. Dragon Ball FighterZ is born from what make the Dragon Ball series so loved and famous: endless spectacular fights with its all-powerful fighters.

Partnering with Arc System Works, Dragon Ball FighterZ maximizes high-end anime graphics and brings easy to learn but difficult to master fighting gameplay to audiences worldwide.

    Key Features
    • 3-versus-3 Tag/Support – Allows players to train and master more than one fighter / style, which brings deeper gameplay.
    • High-End Anime Graphics – Using the power of Unreal Engine 4 and the talented team at Arc System Works, Dragon Ball FighterZ is a visual tour-de-force.
    • Spectacular Fights – Experience aerial combos, destructible stages, famous scenes from the Dragon Ball anime reproduced in 60 frames per second and 1080p resolution. (Higher resolution will be supported on PlayStation 4 Pro and Xbox One X.)

    Announced Characters
    • Goku
    • Vegeta
    • Gohan
    • Cell
    • Frieza
    • Majin Buu

This was literally one of the worst aspects of Marvel for me, and they fixed it. Thank you based Arc Sys.

MVCI is dead to me at this point

This looks fantastic, but the lack of Female Fighters will prolly be a dealbreaker for me :/ (I dont know the Dragonball Universe, but i remember only some Robotic Female Fighter, the rest is all male right?)

They could slot in some female fighters, but that's always been a problem in general with DBZ. Not a ton of strong females.

they could instantly fix that problem by inviting the Sailor Senshis into this game :D

Gender balance and overall roster size are the only two moderate hesitations I have about this game, and even those are kind of "ehh, as long as the rest is good"

I'd say a 3v3 fighter has to have at least 30 characters to be reasonably sized, and I'm not sure how that pans out without dipping too hard into different forms of the same character (Gohan, Trunks, and Buu are the only ones I'd accept duplicates of without much complaint) and actually making all their moves unique. Obviously DBZ has a fuckhuge roster, and even moreso if they're pulling from Super content which Golden Frieza seems to suggest, but only a handful are really fleshed out enough to have a unique style. Obviously they should throw show cannon power levels out the window in order to maintain balance, I'm just not sure I'm ready to see Yamcha beat the shit out of SSJ3 Goku. That's the one thing that the Budokai games sidestepped by just making some characters outright weaker.

Edit: mental math on character roster
    Spoiler: show
I guess if we split it into 15 good 15 bad, we'd end up with something like:
    Goku
    Gohan (young)
    Gohan (teen) or Great Saiyaman
    Goten
    Vegeta
    Trunks (young)
    Trunks (teen)
    Piccolo
    Krillin
    Beerus
    (5 more characters)

    Frieza
    Buu
    Evil Buu
    Cell
    Android 17
    Android 18
    Brolly
    Evil Goku
    Hit
    (6 more)

I'd say these are all pretty safe guaranteed slots. For the remaining slots I'm hoping for maybe Videl (just because they need more than 1 female), Tien, Yajirobi as a joke character, one of the Kais, Android 16, a few Ginyu members, Zarbon (never gonna happen), and Cooler. What I'm actually expecting, however, is a bunch of fusions. I haven't watched much of Super so I don't know much about any new villains after the black arc, if there are any.

depends on how far they go in the canon, there are two female saiyans now in super, I believe, I'm a bit behind though

For what it's worth, the Dragonball Super anime recently introduced 2 female saiyans, one of which takes the form of a female version of Broly after transformation. Not sure if they'll end up in the game and what they'd offer in terms of varying fighting styles.

The video already shows Golden Freeza, so they're going DBS territory.
I wouldn't be surprised to see either Califlua or Kale (the two female saiyans nivlakian mentioned) being added alongside C18
