Yeah when they initially showed it off I wasn't very excited, but goddamn was I wrong.
The faults with the game I think can mostly be narrowed down to the vastly smaller roster of monsters compared to the previous generations (well... I also think Specialized Tools were a mistake, makes stuff too easy), but that will definitely be improved over time. I'm a little hesitant about how extreme the power creep will get with G rank being added, but at least in regards to Monster Hunter in Capcom I trust.
I know it was around previously but I missed it because I was deployed, but goddamn is Super Jagras fun
This game is free now on game pass. Any tips for someone's first MH?

Experiment with weapons early on to find what you like
Don't get hung up on farming for gear until you reach high rank.
Make it a point to observe and understand monsters tells, even at low rank don't just try to Zerg thru stuff, it's gonna end poorly as you get later into the game.
Farm Honey, and then farm some Honey.
And once that's done, farm some Honey.
This game guides you by the hand pretty effectively compared to old ones. It's not until later on when you're starting to min max that you really need to dig deep.
Petty much that. Find a weapon that feels nice and look into guides for more in depth on to utilize it.
And you can never have enough Honey.
mine/harvest everything
mid game only fuck around with the weapon types that are most aesthetically pleasing to you, otherwise you'll be farming shit forever. two or three weapon types max until you get through a good chunk of the story imo
For me, I honestly feel like I learned a lot playing through the whole story solo. Since it makes you need to learn monster animations/attacks a lot more when most of those attacks are targeted at you. I would also probably spend a while in the training area trying to find a weapon you enjoy playing and probably look up guides on them for the stuff they do that you may not be able to figure out in the training area.
also honey
Also as the game starts to open up and you get delivery requests to expand the farm or the cafeteria and whatnot, DO THEM.
You'll want a small side of bitterbugs with all that honey.
Hmm... pick a type of weapon use it to get honey. Got it.

You know a year later I'm still disappointed with how little monsters are actually in this game. The lack of basic shit like Tigrex is still jarring to me.
With Nargacuga coming in Iceborne that should also mean it won't be too much work to add in Tigrex or Barioth.
I'm kinda hoping for Khezu and Gigginox since we're getting an ice environment added.
Maybe the crabs too
Just in case your wondering, the honey thing is because a huge amount of crafted consumables require honey as an ingredient. So running out of honey severely limits your healing options when you go on hunts.
So the moral of the story is, moar honey.
Or you could just git gud and not have to heal ever.
Yeah I feel like i could get by on cat heals for most stuff before i stopped playing. Hammer is so rewarding to git gud with.

by endgame every run versus anything of note you should probably be using a max potion, demondrug, and armorskin. that's 3 honey, 3 bitterbugs, 1 blue mushroom, 1 mandragora, 1 might seed, 1 adamant seed a run before you've even stepped out of camp
Obviously you can skip the max potion and armorskin if you don't get hit like a noob.
