Rngesus likes me in this game so far. Just got a rathalos ruby in just 2 capture investigations. Rocking 2 piece legiana and 2 piece rathalos sets atm. Next up 2 odogaron gems for his pants and critical eye charm upgrade.
Also according to this database site capture and body carve have the exact same chance for everything. Investigation rewards are where the real chance of drops are anyway.
So yeah, capture away to speed shit up.
Beat the HR 100 quest solo, what a ride. Time to farm the remaining decorations I need for complete sets, but in the meantime, to make things interesting, I'm going to make and use decorationless sets (using only 1 atk decoration). Here are a few that I made for anyone that is interested who don't have all the good decorations:
General melee set

Defensive ice melee set with good luck+ negate wind pressure

Earplugs Melee Set

(I really like the Kushala set bonus with evade window+distance 2)
Got my first Nergigante kill with a pug followed up with my first Kirin kill with another pug.
I got an investigation for Jyura yesterday with 4 gold rewards, and between all the attempts only got a single Wyvern Gem.
Fuck yo RNG
Finally beat Anjanath thanks to everyones suggestions here. Really starting to learn the environmental traps. Get him into those vine traps all day long. Can't wait to get to HR!
My son keeps telling me to go after Diablos and Rathian/Rathalos when they show up and I am fighting some other monster.
They'll be tough at this point if you're just beating Anja. I'd avoid them for a bit longer.
Oh yeah I definitely run away when I see them. I love watching turf wars when monsters collide. Specially when they do so much of the work for you. I was watching Anja and Great Jagras battle it out and they positioned themselves perfectly under the hanging boulders for me and I was able to hit them both.
I've had Rath (I think Los) come through and drag Anja up high and drop him for 1500 damage or so. Very comical.
Rathian is doable at the Anja point.
I'd definitely hold off on Rathalos/Diablos till the next stage of your weapon trees though. Which is once you've played in the 3rd & 4th zones for a bit.
There's a fun environmental trick you can consistently use against both Rathian and Rathalos, to do a boat load of damage to start the fight, that I'm not going to spoil because it's a lot of fun to figure out on your own. Keep your eyes peeled for your scout-flies telling you about something you haven't seen anywhere else in the entire zone at the highest point of the Ancient Forrest.
Really? I've literally never started a Rathalos fight without doing it.
You can normally get his tail off before he even has a chance to do anything.
Weapon abilites that cause big explosions can trigger it if the monster itself is refusing to play along.
