For me, Nintendo won E3 with their “press conference.” It wasn’t just the amazing games they showcased, but it was also the fact that almost everything they announced will be a day-one purchase for me.

Am I the only one who didnt like the majority of the 3d metroid? The 2d ones were vastly superior, especially the gameboy ones.

I loved the 2D ones but damn the 3D ones were absolutely amazing. I'd rate them as rough equals TBH but I have a slight leaning toward the 3D ones. As much as I love Metroidvania games, there was just something very fun about the 3D games, in the world itself and how you explore that world.

For sticking to the Metrovania theme and mostly taking place in corridors or slightly open areas that were just big rooms, I thought the Prime series felt more involved and lived in than most open world games. Maybe it was the scan visor, but I remember really digging the worlds they crafted as a whole. For it's time, the action felt top notch. Not sure how well it's aged.

I get sick playing first person games 90% of the time (and tight spaces/corridors are 100%), so I'm biased to the 2D lol.

I hated the gameplay compared to the 2d ones. Maybe it was console limitations, and also I never played Other M, but a few hours in I'm just over it. 2d or bust for me unless these guys can take 8 years to make the best metroid game ever.

I think people are overblowing this delay.

It's not like this switch JUST happened today. It has probably been in place since around the time Tropical Freeze finished up. Which means they probably have a 6 month lead time with hopefully either an engine in place or a decent amount of assets already to work with.

Since Nintendo generally announces on a 6 month timetable, and this was already over a year old, I'm guessing we will see this by Summer 2020 with either a 2D Metroid title or Prime Trilogy port around fall 2019. The Trilogy port has probably been in Nintendo's pocket for this very purpose (as it was with Twilight Princess HD or the rumored Skyward Sword HD) and wouldn't take much turnaround at all.

The best part is that once again, by the time a big Nintendo game arrives, the hardware will be so cripplingly under-powered for the current age that we'll spend most of our time with the game wondering what could have been had it been on a system with decent modern tech.

Its the classic Nintendo cycle.
