I've been waiting for another side scroller for a long time... Gonna have to dust off the 3ds!

So very thankful this is 3DS and not New 3DS.

This game needed a revisit the most, and I'm glad they did it right.

Also explains why Nintendo went hard on the fan remake that happened.

    Indeed!

"We can't have those fans upstaging us, now! Sic 'em, boys!"

They've always been zealously protective of their IP's though.

That said, I'm just glad to see an official Metroid game that goes back to its roots. It's been an even longer drought for folks like myself who didn't care for the first-person style of the Prime games.

Yeah, I can't really say the jump to FPS did the franchise any favors, but c'est la vie.

I loved the Prime Trilogy more than any older versions once i get past nostalgia for Super Metroid.

But I'm looking forward to this game, cause I still darn well enjoyed the 2d ones released along the way.

I will concede that it had one of the more graceful transitions to 3D than other franchises that began around the same time.

I watched that 50 minute video of the girl playing. It looks like every other 2d metroid, and that's perfectly fine by me.

    Almost definitely.

Never been a massive fan of the 2D Metroids (I did like Fusion though), but I really like the look of this so I'm gonna give it a try.

I loved Super Metroid as a kid, and still play it through every few years. I also liked Fusion but only ever played it once that I can recall. I was never able to get through metroid II on the gameboy though. And the original metroid just kicks your teeth in. So I'm looking forward to this game the same way I was to zero mission. Also Prime 4 because I love the prime games too. Maybe 2 a little less than 1 and 3.

I'll pick this up to support the Metroid franchise, but this is the last goddamn 240p game I'm buying. I want the 3DS to retire and bow the fuck out of the scene gracefully while it still can.

The game's hardest difficulty is locked behind a $30 amiibo purchase (Samus 2-pack). There is a less harder difficulty that can be unlocked through normal play.

That sentence doesn't make sense. Hardrest but less harder than what's available in game?

2nd hardest mode can be unlocked through playing the game. The hardest if you buy the amiibo.

I'd be willing to bet the amiibo difficulty is also unlocked at 100%; that generally unlocking metroid extras is done upon game completion and then certain exploration thresholds.

A Nintendo rep on Reddit said this was not the case.

No. You will pay your money if you want all of the content.
