2 years ago we signed "hottest Defensive Player in the NCAA" Kenney Morrison. Today we didn't qualify him and let him go unrestricted after he spent 2 seasons in the AHL and didn't really show any signs of being an NHL caliber player. I'm not gonna hype up this signing until I actually see the kid crack the NHL. If he can turn into another Jimmy Vesey then great. And if not, well, whatever.

McDavid at ~18% of the cap plus Draisatl is an RFA and will be due a pretty damn stellar contract of his own shortly. Gotta pay both of them, but definitely hamstrings flexibility elsewhere.

An offersheet of 7,010,667 x 7yrs or An offersheet of 8,179,112 x 6 yrs is as high you can go while only having to compensate with Two first-round picks and a second- and third-round pick. Does Edmonton match it? Is Draisaitl worth these cap hits, and this compensation?

Welp, Draisaitl was 2nd in goals and in points on the team. And Edmonton just traded away the guy who was 3rd in points (Eberle). So yeah, they'd be pretty stupid to let their only other high-scorer go (Lucic had 50 points in 4th, and the Nuge 43 points in 5th on team scoring).

That being said, should he get offersheeted, they're fucked lol. And even if he doesn't, if they pay him upwards of $7mil (which is quite possible), they're also fucked lol.
