Couple days late to comment on this but I think that's a great, low risk signing. I won't be surprised if they'll kinda use him as someone to swap with Ericksson or just but him on the PP and then hide him on the 4th line. The team is still going to be trrrible this season but hey an extra body and that cost is fine by me in the short term.

The biggest issue with the team even if they fill the remaining roster spots is that if you have injuries that aren't LTIR eligible, you're royally fucked. Not only will you not have the depth to compensate, but you won't be able to even call anyone up.

Back when the salary cap was initially put in place when Calgary had fucking Daryl Sutter as a GM, the cap was so poorly managed by him that a couple small injuries resulted in the team having to dress an undersized roster. And it made a huge difference in team performance. And I'm not taking about crappy late 2000's Calgary that didn't make the playoffs, but good Calgary that just went to the cup finals and then won the Pacific Division the following year.

So yeah, injuries WILL happen. And as morbid as this sounds, unless the Caps manage to dump some salary then you're gonna be hoping they're major enough to result in LTIR usage. Otherwise the Caps will be gassed and fatigued well before the playoffs even start.

3 New rule changes including a new rule regarding Offside Challenges;

1. From now on, a failed offside challenge will result in a two-minute penalty against the club asking for the review. Should result in fewer challenges for really ticky tack close shit where we are looking if a tiny part of the blade is over or not.

2. Teams are no longer able to call timeout after icing the puck. The other club can still do so if it wishes, but tired defenders won’t be able to ask for the extra rest.

3. Previously, under Rule 80.4, a team on the power play that was guilty of playing the puck after a high stick saw the ensuing faceoff come deep into their own zone. Now, the team will gain territory (assuming the infraction is in the offensive end). Instead of going all the way down the ice, the faceoff will be in the neutral zone, close to the defending team’s blue line.

Hopefully they'll start calling Delay of Game penalties on teams that try the line-changing fuckery after an icing to stall for breathing time. The Leafs do it as much as anybody.

New Player Safety head George Parros just chatted with media here at league office. Says he plans to come down harder in 2 areas: Slashing and non-hockey plays where he feels players are purposely trying to injure. Says he plans to be harsher on those incidents
