In that regard I don't disagree at all. Bettman has made it very clear that he prioritizes the US markets by and far. The league brass would lose their shit if the NHL had an all Canadian SCF lol

Hartford will take your teams
Are u sayin that Toronto Maple Leafs fans will watch the Arkansas Eagles?
Ask them Whalers fans how they felt about the Hurricanes, or them Nordiques fans how they felt about the Avs.
And fuck that if they think my tax money should pay for the Flames arena!
This Pastrnak situation is seriously scaring me now. Camp is about to start and they still haven't reached an agreement. Rumors going around that Pasta wants to play in KHL/Olympics.
Habs should offersheet him
Fuck this "offersheets are disrespectful". The goal isnt to be respectful, the goal is to win.
If young RFA talent is going to bolt to the KHL, like Pasta and Anthesiou (i cant spell, he plays for the Wings lol) cause these teams fucked their cap situation, why should the other 30 GMs be respectful?
Like, it might be fine if it was for good players like RyJo, Pasta or Draisaitl but the majority of the time it would be for lesser players, not the stars, which tends to just inflate contacts for other players. Like the Nets this year offered a max contract to Otto Porter, who is in no way worth that. Yea, he is pretty good but that would be like tossing 9m at Burakovsky in the NHL.
Also, NBA teams can go over the cap, so they can choose to match if they are willing to pay, whereas you can just fuck teams over in the NHL if they are close to the cap. It's just more of a dick move in other sports imo.
Are you trying to tell us that offer sheeting a guy the caliber of Dustin Penner is a bad idea?
Pasta 6 years 40mill with boston
Leafs will go captainless again this season.
I agree. Though I'm saying it's a steal as the expected value of the contract was around 7mil+ so it was a surprise that it came out to be what it was. With Chiarelli setting the market for these type of players by paying Draisatl 8.5m AAV, and with the amount of time it was taking, some people thought Pasta/his agent wanted 8 mil plus, which is ridiculous.
Oh man, this is golden. After the awkward reunion of the Avs and Duchene, he proceeds to take this picture. He looks so disgruntled, lawl.
IIHF barred countries from asking NHLers to participate in the Olympics.
I wonder what strings Bettman pulled to get that to happen.
In relation to this, Ovie's official statement that TL;DR has him officially not going

Clarke MacArthur proves he probably shouldn't have been allowed to play at the end of last season by failing his physical coming in to training camp.
