I live and work right in the path. We gave everyone who works for us in Oregon the day off, since it's going to be a logistical nightmare to travel to and from work, and a lot of them wanted the day off anyway. I'll probably just go out in my backyard and watch it with a beer in hand. I still need to buy a couple of pairs of glasses though.

Oh, yes, this. While kind of funny for those people who aren't going to see it, cloudy wouldn't change anything - everyone will already be here. I also think there might be a mad rush of people trying to head east all at once if the weather forecast says "Cloudy at the coast, sunny in the valley" type of thing, and that would be awful.

I anticipate quite the stress test of our roadways in select areas.

I'm going to Nebraska instead of Wyoming to avoid the I-25 corridor.

    Day of Black Suuuun

I am also excite for this. I think we only get a 75% - 60% eclipse but it's better than nothing.
I'll probably just look at it and burn my retinas out.

The state of Oregon is actually using it as a test of tsunami evacuation systems, and are going to be studying traffic patterns from this day for quite some time. You're never going to see a stress test like this again unless there's an actual tsunami. This will be particularly true if the forecast of "coast cloudy, valley sunny" comes to fruition sometime Monday morning.

I saw the Cairns, Australia eclipse on my honeymoon in 2012, it was awesome. When totality hit it was pretty insane, and the clouds JUST BARELY cooperated, the sun "came out" a few minutes before totality, and covered the sun again right as totality was ending.

Oregonian here too; Kind of amazing we're RIGHT in the path. Lucky for me I can work from home if I plan accordingly, so I plan on getting out on my balcony and enjoying the view and not deal with the traffic nightmare.

Heading to Idaho for this to visit friends right before. Taking a telescope and 3 dslrs: wide view landscape video of the totality, photos thru the telescope, and 200mm on photos the 3rd. Going to try for Chromosphere, outter corona, bailys beads and of course the diamond ring all within 2 min 5 seconds (total for the area I am heading).

So apparently there's a 2nd total solar eclipse in 2024. The path of totality of both eclipses crosses a couple hundred square miles in West KY, southern Illinois, and eastern Missouri. I live right smack in the middle of both totalities. Assuming I don't die or go blind, I'll see two total solar eclipse in 7 years and won't have to leave my front porch.

I'll see both but neither will be in totality. Memphis is like .93 this time and .98 the next. If these weren't both on Monday I could just drive to Nashville.

I'm with that lady up above. Why can't we just reschedule the sun? Show up a day early.

If you're only 100min from totality, you gotta find a way to make it work. .__.

Yeah we were debating 10-11hr road trip for it. There's a lot of cool things that happen during a full eclipse. Just saw my travel miles just came through too, gonna be a tough choice.
