As much as I wish this wasnt even partly true, its the sad reality I've noticed. Even with most of these victims are probably white, nothing much will probably change, just like with Newtown.

Is there an infograph or something that shows how many of the past shooters would have been stopped by even the most rigorous of background checks? I'm genuinely curious as most of them tend to have this as their first time offense iirc.

edit: Also what is the most intense proposal short of a ban?

idk, I thought we were generally comfortable with the idea that disarmament is the only effective solution to our gun problem and that all the other suggestions (background checks, etc.) are basically reasonable (but ineffective) window dressing that shows how far we are from the real solution.

Question, did the shooter break the window and start shooting? I am unaware of Mandalay Bay having balconies. In fact I remember staying at a wraparound terrace suite at the Cosmopolitan that had a walking balcony which I thought was a bit weird for Vegas.

Mandalay Bay doesn't have balconies and their windows don't open. Last night people were saying they heard glass shatter and then the shooting started, so it would seem that he did break the window first.

Was a lot of reporting going on last night but it seems that SWAT got there to take him out within minutes of it starting?

Wonder if they are just claiming responsibility because they can and it fits their narrative. Will be interesting to see if there is any evidence to back up the claim he converted to Islam.

LVMPD raided his house and found nothing abnormal. Highly doubtful since, as AG once put it, if you stubbed your toe Isis would claim it.

However I will admit there might be a possible link with his Filipino friend and that country's current fight with ISIL. We still don't have a motive so hey who knows.

10 weapons in the hotel. A couple in the house. The guy had no criminal history and lived in a recently built cul de sac.

cosmo has balconies because it was originally supposed to be condos and when economy collapsed MLife acquired it and made it a hotel.
