What younger less valuable pieces? They realistically had to move one of Bradley, Smart, or Crowder to make room for Hayward's max. Smart is a restricted FA next year and is 3 years younger, Crowder is on a great contract for 3 more years

If you re-sign unrestricted FA Bradley next year, you're likely forced to pay him the max. Along with Isaiah's new deal, Boston would be capped out.

Marcus Morris is on a super cheap deal for two more years.

It does likely make them worse today but it makes them more flexible going forward. Without Paul George they didn't have a realistic shot of competing this year anyway

The Celtics are still in this bizarro situation where they rebuilt too fast, so they are committed to not overextending themselves.

Especially after this next season with the Cavs on the verge of imploding, the Celts best chances start in 2018. And unfortunately Bradley doesn't play into that.

For Detroit it wouldn't matter if they had KCP+Morris. KCP (at least in Detroit) is looked at as a potential star, not a current star. The optimism for Bradley is that since he's in a contract year he'll try to ball out and Detroit could trade and get value on top of the 2nd round pick. Barring injuries and flukes, we're probably looking at a BOS vs. CLE ECF anyways. Detroit won't be competitive for probably at least three years.

most would but as Moss say by next season Bradley will earn more than Smart and Crowder combined. he's a fine player but Boston isn't winning a ring this year and do you really want to double down on Bradley for 20+ million a year going forward, or let him walk for nothing?

that said i don't care for Morris much, at his best he's a passable facsimile of a stretch 4 but he's weak in all the areas Horford is weak in. surprised they couldn't get a better return for Bradley.

I'm thinking it was the best they could do given they wanted someone playable on a cheap contract. Having to be the side to throw in the 2ND rounder is a bit meh

Watching Morris last year I didn't think he was bad. I'm thinking he may do better since he'll be surrounded by more talented teammates. I agree though about the 2nd. Surprised they threw that in.
