Welp... it kind of worked in hockey? The hockey draft was boring as fuck but I can see the NBA draft actually being entertaining.

I could see adding in little fun things like that working with NBA. NBA players are actually allowed to have personality and fun, whereas the average hockey player has the personality of a brick wall. So giving NBA players more freedom to have fun will make a noticeable difference in all likelihood

A while back, my friends and I would make up some stupid rules where we would take some chalk to the blacktop and mark spots for "power ups". If you made a basket from that designated area, you got a sticker which corresponded with a specific immunity for one possession. Some of the stuff we came up with was infinite traveling for one possession and go anywhere on the court (out of bounds, back court, etc). The sticker was a way to track who had what "power ups" they could use and we would remove them after use. We also had spots where if you made it, the other team lost points, or the other team loses a player for one possession. It was stupid as hell but fun to play...

NBA needs to figure out how to motivate the players, then you see the sparks fly. Give the winning players all a $50k bonus or something, that might be enough to make them try.

NHL introduces a $1mil prize. It actually works to an extent for their all star format. They hold a mini 3 on 3 tourney, first round the teams are having fun, but the final round players are actually making an effort.
