FFRK - Pawn Among Kings (XII) Event & Strategies

"I brought you some of those flowers you like; Galbana Lilies. Remember?" - Vaan
"My brother is all I have left, sir." - Reks

Three years after losing his parents, Reks joined the Order of the Knights of Dalmasca and fell under the command of Captain Basch, to whom Reks reminded of his own brother. Having been one of the few to survive the initial Archadian assault, he forms part of the detachment sent to stop King Raminas from signing Dalmasca's unconditional surrender at Nalbina Fortress after rumors spread it is but a conspiracy to assassinate him.

Holding back to defend the rear from the Imperial forces, Reks becomes separated from his company. When he reaches the throne room, he is distraught to find his slaughtered comrades lying at the feet of their murdered King. Basch appears from the shadows and stabs Reks, leaving him to witness his confession and subsequent arrest. Though mentally and physically destroyed by the events, Reks is able to corroborate the Empire's version of events to Vaan and Vossler and as a result, Basch is convicted on high treason.

All information is taken from a mixture of Reddit/Spreadsheets/Kongpakbao Site and my own obviously expert analysis.

Most info for the event comes from this site: https://www.reddit.com/r/FFRecordKee...la&sh=15cd153f

Though the information provided is used as a guideline and not always taken directly from the thread. When necessary, additional thoughts on Cid Missions and battle strategies are added.

    Notable Rewards:

    Don't listen to Ondore's lies!

    Cid Missions
Complete Ultimate++ fight with a party of FF XII heroes.

    Relics

    Banner 1:
Events have been restored (kinda) to their natural order. This will resume the FFXIII banner format of 2 6*'s.

Reks is kind of a weird Spellblade/Paladin hybrid in FFRK. As such, His BSB is an Onion Knight carbon copy on entry, but CMD1 hits a single target with thunder/ice four times with a damage boost if the target is weak. CMD2 has a non-typed single hit but heals a party member for 25% of their HP. His SSB is a simple 8 hit single target physical with party medica of 40%.

Vaan and Balthier get most of the toys on banner 1. Vaan's USB has instant Steal Atk/Res on entry with no-charge and a 30% boost to Thief abilities applied for 15 seconds. Vaan's SSB instant Atk/Def debuff returns as well.

Balthier gets the fire type version of Squall's BSB 2, with random target fire/non on entry and imperil fire. CMD1 can proc a minor instance of imperil fire and builds up the "Oil Bomb" counter. CMD2 can deal 4 hits of 24/54/84 or 120% damage based on the "Oil Bomb" counter. His en-fire SSB also returns.

Mehnelo has her USB medica return, as does Basch's BSB and SSB - but not his coveted HotE clone.

    Banner 2:
If you want a XII medica, this is your chance. Also: Fran.

Fran's USB is only the 2nd imperil ice in the game, and also gives the party a 2 turn shortcharge. Her imperil thunder SSB is also on the banner, as is her Pentabreak BSB.

Vayne gains his OSB with no real trick, gimmicks, or weird modifiers attach. Straight holy/dark 1200% physical or 4000% magical damage. His BSB and SSB also return.

    Larsa.

    Oh Larsa.

You want BSB Curaga medica entry and Astra? We got that.
You want instant Curaga CMD1 and medica CMD2. We got that.
You want SSB Curaga medica and Hastega? We got that.
You want all-in-one party protection with Pro/Shell/Stoneskin? We got that too.

    Don't believe Ondore's lies!

    Legend Materias:
Banner 1 - Vaan: Status debuff duration increased by 30%.
Banner 1 - Balthier: 25% chance to double cast Machinist abilities.
Banner 2 - Fran: 30% chance to apply Stun after using Support abilities.
Banner 2 - Vayne: Begin the battle with En-dark applied.

If you're looking for Ashe stuff, this is not the place. Banner 3 of SURF is where you want to go. This is also the last XII event to date in Japan, so consider that as well.

    Bonus Battles
    Dark Espers +

    Belias
    HP: 100,610
    Target Score:
    • Defeat Belias without being KO'ed.
    • Reduce Belias' magic.

    Weak: Water
    Absorb: Fire
    Resist: Everything else
    Null: None
    Status Vulnerabilities: Slow, Stun

    Mateus (w/ Ice Azer x3)

    • Reduce Mateus' magic.

    Weak: Thunder
    Absorb: Ice
    Resist: Mateus: Everything else
    Null: Ice Azer: Everything else
Status Vulnerabilities: Mateus: Stun - Ice Azer: Paralyze, Blind, Sleep, Stun

Notes: Belias will use Pro/Shell at low health, and Mateus begins the fight with Pro/Shell/Reflect so bring a dispel. Both have mixed attacks, so mitigate accordingly.

Mateus gains CT0 and will attack twice at low health.

Ring Dragon of the Storm ++
    Tiamat
    HP: 189,187
    Target Score:

    Null: None
    Vulnerabilities: Slow, Stun

Notes: Magic is what you need to worry about, but Tiamat does have both physical and magical attacks. He will also use reflect as a counter to black and white spells at lower HP, so if you're using spells bring a dispel or reflect of your own.

Old Dragon of the Great Forest +++

    Resist: Everything else
    Null: None
    Vulnerabilities: Stun

Notes: Runic can make this fight trivial, as almost all his spells are single target. Reflect will not work as they are all piercing.

He has a scripted AoE slowga at 70%, and at 50% will use his AoE dark ranged physical move which will hurt without some physical mitigation.

Does not retreat to the back row anymore. Will spawn his first clone on turn 1 , and a 2nd clone at the 70% HP mark along with the AoE slowga.

% chance to activate in response to physical attacks: Counter Drain (BLK: deal % magical darkness damage to one target and recover HP equal to % of the damage dealt)

Notes and Strategies: Everything except for the Rook's Drain attack is physical.

There are a few tricks here, but nothing really punishing. You'll want a form of dispel (or even 2) because both the Rooks and Dr. Cid can buff eachother with pro/shell/haste/etc. Dr. Cid has one piercing physical attack, but it is single target. Finally, you only need to defeat Dr. Cid to win the battle.

Cid Mission: Why would you not bring the Leading Man to battle his own father? His repertoire is mostly fire based, so if you have any form of SSB or better for Balthier, he is worth your time.

Mehnelo is good for mitigation with dances, and with the single target nature of Dr. Cid's attacks you can probably get away with only 1 healer even if you don't have a realm medica.

Even though Banishing Strike is resisted, its worth it on Basch for dispel duty.

30% chance: Piercing Graviga (BLK: 303% chance to deal 30% maximum HP damage to all targets)
Special: 凶 Darkra (NAT: deal 300% piercing magical darkness damage to all targets)

Notes and Strategies: The fight starts with pro/shell active, so start with a dispel.

Not a complicated fight like the recent Chadarnook, thankfully. Very straightforward.

Mitigation accessories are hard to pick, honestly. Gigas Armlets/Necrophobe Ward are good options due to the Fire/Ice/Thunder spells, but Tyrant often opts to use Dark based spells on both scripted and non-scripted actions. It also gains a small (6%) chance of instant KO at low health as well as a gravity attack for 30% MAX HP which can kill you.

Mixed mitigation if you can, but obviously the dangers are magic based and Vaan's BSB (even if used as a RW) will help a lot.

Jump Start Notes: Everyone begins at 0 ATB like Chadarnook, but there isnt a time AoE confuse to worry about so it's less of an issue.

Can't quite RW a Squall OSB and cut it down, as you would only be doing in the 100k range total on a well geared Squall and its resistances to every other element make OSB use problematic. Onion Knight and similar non-elemental OSB's can help as can the usual mitigation and go to town strat used in the regular fight.

CM Cid is driving me insane with this bullshit.

Basch BSB, Penelo and Larsa's Medica SSB, Vaan BSB, Balthier fire SSB.

Can't get this asshole past 50% with his Def ignoring BS with or without wall RW.

Shouldn't the wrath + SSB spam from Larsa make this manageable?

Basch - Banishing Strike | LS - Use his Default SB for mini wall
Larsa - Full Break | Wrath
    Vaan - LS | PBD
    Penelo - Curaja | Protectga
Balthier - Firaga Strike | LS

RW Boostga (Minfilia SSB) or Rikku USB?

Also assuming it's the imperil fire SB and not the AoE Fire SB?

i'm stacked as hell on XII (vaan/ashe/balth/penelo BSB, ashe OSB, tons of misc. SSB/uniques etc.) but with no native hastega, the CM is straight up impossible. with mitigation limited to dances + proshellga, it's not possible to survive even with double healers (and insane luck on healing doublecast RNG). i struggled with it for an hour or so and gave up.

Not sure what the issue is. I don't have as much crazy crap as you guys have and I did it 1/2 again to see what may be the issue.

Basch - Armor Break | Banishing Strike - Default SB (Level 74) should have done Mako Might but meh I was dumb
    Vaan - LS | TR rank 2 - Pyroclasm SSB (level 99)
Fran - PBD | Full Break - Whip Kick (never used since she died at 40%) (Level 80)
Balthier - Firaga Strike | Blind shot - defualt SB never cast, LMR (never procced) (Level 80)
Penelo - Curaja | Protectga - USB (this kinda made things manageable) (99)
    RW- Shout

You could probably run double heals by using Larsa with Curaja + Full Break and Power Break/Steal Power on Vaan.

that legit makes no sense to me unless the attack script just stopped running by turn 3 or so. incoming damage was reliably 3-4k/turn after that, i couldn't make it past turn 5 without losing 2-3 characters.

You can kinda make him waste turns by dispelling him as much as possible to gobble up actions. He kept recasting Greater Barrier. Turn 6 the AoE physical unlocks and happens every 6th turn supposedly. Didn't notice it fire off until he hit 60%. Hit for 3k, but Penelo was able to heal through it. Her USB does trivialize the fight a bit since the HP Stock and Phys Blink absorbs a lot. The Single Target Armor Pierce attack I think only hit for 1.6-2k.

Biggest threat to kill me was the Rooks casting Drain. Didn't bother breaking them or Shellga. It's what killed Fran for 6k. She was negligible damage since Vaan and Balthier did all the damage.

If you go double heal, Curada on Penelo (Lionheart RM) and Curaja on Larsa (Doublecast).

Did it again with this setup though it was a bit more sloppy (3 S/L due to RNG killing Balthier before mitigation or a Rook casting Drain) and I purposely didn't cast Penelo USB until the very end since I panick clicked.

Basch - Same as above 4*+++ weap
    Balthier - Same 4*+++ weap
Vaan - SSB Katana Power Breakown (redundant but I wanted to be safe)
Larsa (75) Full Break | Curaja - No SB
Penelo Curada | Protectga - Lionheart - 2x Intercession SSB casts, 1x USB though wasn't really needed
    RW: Shout

Expert CM with that setup since the damage was a bit slower and Basch and Larsa both ate it near the end and Penelo ran out of hones to do anything meaningful besides slap herself. I also realize after the fact putting Protectga on Larsa and Multi Break on Penelo would have been a more optimal setup.

Welp, I finally learned how to Youtube, was S/Ling so my setup isn't till the very end of the video, had way too many close calls with Drain, was so sure Basch was gonna bite the dust and cause a reset lol.

Was terrified of this CM after reading some of the posts but this was a piece of cake. 1/1 on it.

I don't have native hastega so I used Rikku's USB

99 Ashe - Just used Chain Firaga and Meltdown. Didn't bother using any SBs
80 Penelo - USB and Curaja with Exhausting Polka
80 Balthier - Just used Lifesiphon till I could use his BSB2
80 Basch - Just spammed banishing strike the whole fight. Did nothing else
72 Fran - Full break / Magic Breakdown and Mist Overload.

Went straight for Cid and ignored the others entirely. Everyone survived and full metals.

Finally got around to finishing the CM this weekend. Also got Tyrant Apoc and JS done.

Sadly, I had to hit/run it a bit for an extra SB bar. I needed too many medicas too early with my setup to have it work otherwise and Penelo needed an extra bar to get the shared Shellga off. Opened it up with Shared Shellga, Protectga, Banishing Strike, Power BD on Cid, and Balthier used RW Shout. After that, Vaan applied magical mitigation on the rooks when he could, but mostly focused on Cid with Power/Armor BD. Penelo's Full BD + Shellga was able to bring the drains down to 3k without Magic BD, which made the rest of the run manageable.

Basch relied on Draw Fire + his BSB Cmd2 for extra damage since I had to bring 2 healers. I started Larsa's medica after Cid took his turn #5 to be ready for his scripted attack.

Same setup between both fights, minus the RW choice and RM options.

    Apoc: SG RW.

Edea and Celes (though she used the RW to open) built bar with ice attacks, OK opened with BSB for the haste but his next 2 turns were Shellga and then Full Break before I even used any BSB commands. Ysh went the first few turns just using Curaja, but used Asylum around turn 4 and from then on everything remained self sufficient.

Edea capped out at 5 hits on Cmd 1 for ~16k damage. Snowspell Strike on Celes almost always had 1 charge available, but sometimes I had to use Blizzaga Strike.

    JS: Ramza USB RW

Same as before, but just more Full Throttled. Vaan used RW to open, to have everyone's next cast be instant and it allowed me to setup SS2, OK BSB, Indonesian Blade, and Maelstrom. Vaan used his BSB on turn 2 and then just railed from there, refreshing Maelstrom once at around 60%.

Edea Cmd 1 reached 6 hits with the extra mag, and was doing 4k/hit.
