Just looked into echo dot. Too much investment required for stuff like lights / sockets for how trivial it is. Seems like it's a year or two away from being useful enough to grab my attention.

I have it.
Every bulb in my place is smart, appliances are smart, TV is smart. Alexa controls everything including the AC. I can use it remotely and it replaces a lot of stupid stuff like alarm clocks and gives you the weather.
I'm closer to having my own personal Iron Man 1 setup everyday.
Also let's me keep a very close eye on my power usage.
I'll care about that sort of thing when my kids move out of the house. Until then my home is already automated...
"Girls, I'm not made of money. Turn all those lights off!"
Sometimes I have to repeat the voice commands, but I didn't have to replace all my switches and light bulbs for it to work.
I've got enough 'multiple can lights on one switch' that going all bulbs isn't the best idea. I've got some coach lights I'd want to control too, but I don't want the weather to murder pricey smart bulbs so they'd need a switch instead as well.
Once day, after a few of the competing standards have disappeared, I'll do it for laughs.
Since we're planning to move in 3-5 years I'm holding off on doing stuff like this because we need to spend money in many other places on the house. Next house I'll definitely be going all out on tech stuff like this.
So no one cares that echo logs everything you do? <___<
got a shower head and some door knobs hell yea prime day
I bought an Echo to use as an alarm clock because the cell phone isn't doing it anymore. Also got a graphic novel (I Hate Fairyland vol 2) and a copy of Mad Max for PS4 because they were both excellent prices.
It looked like the PS4 slim bundle with Uncharted 4 and The Last of Us (digital) for $229 was a pretty solid deal, but I'm not super up on these things anymore.
That was the best PS4 bundle. XBone had some better deals though.
I saved $3.55 on some motorcycle parts so I'll call that a win, thanks prime day
Ordered an echo yesterday, it came in today with free overnight and I used that to purchase a squatty potty for 10$ (alexa only) hell yeah!
I bought a set of samsonite luggage. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Was on sale for $125. I had about $15 leftover from the dash wand deal. Then, apparently if you're approved for the amazon.com card, they'll give you an $80 gift card immediately. So I got approved for that too. So, got a couple pieces of Samsonite hard shell luggage for $40.
