Mario Kart Arcade GP VR (Arcade/Vive)

Mario Karate Arcade GP VR (that's a mouthful) will be making its way to Bandai Namco's VR ZONE, when it opens in Shinjuku this Friday, July 14.

If the name isn't obvious, this is Mario Kart's jump into virtual reality. It runs on an HTC Vive and a Mario Kart Arcade racing rig.

In the video, you can see some noticeable changes to the Mario Kart formula. Including items hanging from balloons, rather than being in blocks, and new items like the hammer.

Is kart racing a hot VR commodity? I wouldn't think something like that would translate well for general audiences.

Kinda weird going with the VR angle. Aren't Japanese people supposedly extra vulnerable to motion sickness according Japanese developers?

Am curious what motion controller they have on their hands since that isn't part of Vive's kit last I checked, or their new controller coming out in v2.

Cool that they're going all in on it with the rocking cockpits. Shame about all the load screens (tunnels of white light) though, probably a performance shortcut given VR needs 60hz+ stable.
