Finding a young handsome Arab actor who speaks fluent English is apparently pretty difficult.

This is specifically what they were looking for (taken from my email)

"Role: Aladdin
18 - 25, MUST BE ABLE TO SING. A LEADING ROLE - Middle Eastern - very leading man handsome looks, incredibly charming, street savy, charismatic, very physically fit (although training time has been scheduled), singing ability vital, please indicate level when suggesting. Auditions will consist of singing and reading. Dancing experience preferred but not absolutely essential at this stage - Role will require full and total dedication, time and focus - very demanding role."

The audition scene itself was actually kind of tricky too. Lots of layers that you could easily miss. And yeah, they wanted Broadway capable singers. So you're asking for a middle eastern actor who's actually a good actor who can carry a multi-million dollar blockbuster movie, who's got western world charm and 'leading man' looks and savyness, who can also sing incredibly well. They looked in the UK first, didn't really find anyone, then actually held open casting calls in Yemen, U.A.E., India too. The guy they cast was born in Egypt and was raised in/close to Toronto IIRC, I got the audition myself just by asking my agent if it was available. She got it for me in like half an hour lol
