Did they really expect to surprise anyone with this? I mean I guess it's nice to be confirmed but since Beauty and the Beast it's been pretty much a given every film of the Disney Renaissance will get a live action.
Waiting for live action Great Mouse Detective.

I half expected it to star Jennifer Lawrence.
Damn, she's tall for an Asian Woman. I wonder who will play Shang(i think).
https://io9.gizmodo.com/mulan-has-ar...-li-1828303044Disney just announced production has begun on Niki Caro’s highly-anticipated live-action version of Mulan, and released the first photo of actress Liu Yifei as the title character.
I dig it.
People on a disney facebook group is up in arms since the story won't deal with the invading huns and won't have a cartoon dragon mentoring Mulan.
They probably need to recoup those Chinese dollars as Winnie the Pooh is banned in China so they couldn’t show Christopher Robin.
Live action all the things!
I...don't get it. what the fuck is the movie supposed to be about then?
No one knows.
Also there is a contingent of LBGT Tumblr that is OUTRAGED about Shang being removed because they consider him to be first bisexual Disney character. The theory there being that he was already falling for Mulan when she was disguised as Ping but was repressing it and that the reveal of Mulan as a woman freed him to embrace his pre-existing feelings for her.

Love interest is a rival soldier (which might mean Mulan's trio of cross-dressing sidekicks is gone too) played by some NZ guy I don't know. Donnie Yen plays the commander that replaces Shang. Jet Li plays the Emperor. Villain is a witch played by Gong Li.
So yeah sounds pretty terrible.
