I'm sure the concept of Disenchantment has been bouncing around in Matt's head for like 10-15 years or longer.
Some of these jokes are only stale because they were penned that long ago. Others are definitely less forgivable.
Hopefully fresher material can make this shine like Futurama eventually did.

Just finished this and it was alright. Not funny in general but a few things made me chuckle. Might have been better if it took itself more seriously and didn't waste time on generally unfunny gags and subplots. It was also weird to get semi-action sequences that don't usually amount to much but a weak gag at the end.

The actual plot was kinda interesting, but didn't get nearly enough traction when it should have been the main focus really since the jokes weren't landing at all.

Good voice cast though and generally easy to watch. Will give it another season at least if there is one but generally a lot of what this show does other shows (Bojack, Rick and Morty, Gravity Falls, hell even Simpsons and Futurama) just do better.

I was anticipating this as being a cross between Futurama and Star vs. the Forces of Evil, but I assume from these comments that it falls short of that =(

Matt Berry's character in the first few episodes felt oddly like a mixture between his character of Douglas from IT crowd and Zap Brannigan. I will say though that the bit about the walruses would be something that either of those characters would end up doing.

The end was better than what I was expecting, but I am still lukewarm on the rest. In an interview with NPR, Matt said the first 10 episodes were considered the first part of season 1 and the next will drop in 2019.

Only on the first few episodes so far, but I have faith in it. Simpsons and Futurama took a while before it found its footing and I'm guessing it's gonna be the same here.

By the numbers;

Disenchantment‘s pilot episode drew 4.4 million viewers (with 60% of them male) on Netflix in its first three days, with an average viewership of 6.6 million across the ten episodes of its first season. That number is slightly larger than the 6.4 million who watched Netflix’s Lost in Space.

Nielsen‘s new findings also established that the show’s median viewer age came in at 29 (compared to 43 for Lost in Space or 30 for Stranger Things 2), with 73% of viewers of the show’s first episode being between the ages of 18 and 49.

The full 10-episode season earned an even higher 18-to-49 viewing, coming in at 75%.

I dug it. It's obviously very different from The Simpsons or Futurama. Instead of an episodic series it's telling a long-form story. I'm invested enough to tune in for part 2.

The wifey and I liked it a lot. It’s establishing a fun universe and we can’t wait to see more of it. It’s not incredible groundbreaking work, but it’s still very enjoyable nonetheless.

Finished it recently. The last half of the series felt a lot stronger than the first. With how much they've established of the world in so little time, I'm hoping there's a lot more to come.
