Looks like a tick of some sort?

Maybe its one of the spiders that got Ragns.

My initial thought was "dunno, but it's adorable!" Google image search says it's a wall.

Wish I knew about that subreddit earlier in the week. Tried searching "bugs that looks like a giant mosquito" and "mosquito on steroids" trying to figure out what this fucker was. Eventually I found it through the latter. I saw a picture that looked like it, but wasn't it, but the related images on THAT image had what I was looking for.



Turns out it was a Robber Fly. Was as in, it got smashed because that huge needle on its face.

Had one of these latch onto my dog's nose last week. Was just sniffing the grass then popped up on her snout. Wound up having to hold her while I got someone else to pull it off.

This thread reminded me of a close encounter with a bug i'd never seen before moving to michigan - a carpenter ant. jesus those things are huge, about an inch long each. i always thought of ants as an annoyance, not something to be terrified of before finding it crawling a foot away from me.

PM me for details on where to send them, but I would like you to also give me the collection date, the location, and if possible the family or class of the specimen. Also be aware of your state or local regulations on collecting and whether you'd need permits.
