Nah. He had them convinced he would be able to finish because he was past the Merenese knot.
They had him tell him the ending because he's a fat old man and could die any day.
Whether by death or lethargy they knew there was a realistic possibility they could be writing without his material to rely on.

man. so i've been rewatching the whole thing and ive just finished rewatching 7x4 now... and i've just come to the full realization that the dothraki actually teleported across a body of water from dragon stone to attack the lannisters. tyrion specifically says an episode before that half their ships went to head to dorne, which got destroyed by euron. and the other half of the ships went to casterly rock, which got destroyed by euron. according to tyrion there shouldn't be anymore ships, but here we are with a bunch of dothraki on the main land somehow. forget the time jumps, dothraki actually teleported across a body of water. i get we're talking about a show with ice dragons and shit, but man, they should've stretched this season out another episode or two to flesh out goofiness like that
They never lost all of their ships. They still had the ships they sailed on from Essos.
Not teleported, it's like Ned always feared - they trained their horses to run on water.

Avengers Endgame and GOT Ep 3 in the same weekend? Sploosh.
Interesting marketing from HBO. The show has created six full size replica Iron Thrones, and they are being hidden in locations around the world, free to the first person to find it and claim it. There is a live camera feed on each one. The first appears to be in a forest somewhere in an otherwise non identifiable area. Once the timer runs out or someone finds it, the second throne will be put up for grabs.
Emilia Clarke has an essay in New Yorker where she reveals she survived two brain aneurysms and subsequent brain surgeries between the end of season 1 and season 3 of GOT, and holy shit, it’s a fascinating and scary thing to read.
HBO will air a Game of Thrones documentary one week after the finale. The two hour documentary will feature “unprecedented” behind the scenes footage and cast & crew interviews. “Game of Thrones: The Last Watch” will premiere at May 26th at 9pm.
