You're right. It wasn't dumb to ask for help. Elon and crew simply illustrated why we shouldn't rely on the biggest tech guru we know to solve all our problems. Sometimes, all we need is elbow grease and some Thai Navy Seals.

Hey let's not understate the team here. Experts from all over the world traveled to the site and assisted greatly. The crucial team was only ~13 individuals, about half of whom were Thai SEALs. One even gave his life delivering and placing oxygen tanks, running out of his own O2 before completing his exit.

Elon Musk's involvement was beyond unnecessary. Personally and moreover, I think it's frankly absurd and insulting to the expertise, ability, and understanding already working tirelessly on-hand or otherwise engaged.

I imagine it's challenging for Musk to ignore cries for his help and ideas, even if it's coming from people who know little or nothing about such a rescue operation.

This rescue was incredible and mostly perfectly completed.

Unable to celebrate the team's successes, we're entangled with Musk and a needless & misguided query with a flawed & naive response.

this. so the prototype whipped up in a matter of hours didn't meet your engineering standards, salodin? big fuckin deal. it's more prototype than the team had before musk's involvement. they ended up not needing it. great. im glad the team of divers were able to get the job done. but if they hadn't, maybe the torpedos could have been the difference. or maybe next time something like this happens, one of the divers won't need to give their life. there is literally no downside to musk's involvement.

Musk is kind of a dumbass on Twitter, but he was in contact with the dive team head who encouraged the development of the sub in case the flooding got too bad.

Wow that was a crazy read.

First the Thai government was initially (When Elon said he would help) thinking it would take MONTHS to get them out. He was asked to help speed that up. Second who cares about whatever personality whatevers you think Elon has more help = good when peoples lives are in danger. Even if they didn't end up using his thing they might have in situations like this you have to scramble everything because if one thing doesn't work you might not have time to get something else going after the fact. Groups of people from all over the world were there trying to help in any way they could.

This is only different because Elon is vocal about the stuff he does so people know about it more than all the other options that were explored and other groups of people that went to help.

Hurray they were rescued though. Was hoping it would turn out good in the end. Sucks for the one Thai navy seal who lost his life. Also just because it wasn't posted on BG doesn't mean we don't care. I have been reading and following the story every day.

Also Elon said he would continue to develop his rescue mini sub for future situations like that and let it live in Thailand.

Recently switched from a 20gb shared between two lines cell phone plan to AT&T's Highest "Unlimited" plan with free HBO. 3 months later they updated the plan to give 30 free channels of Direct TV Now and a choice of a premium channel instead of HBO for the same exact cost.
