Switch version release date is TBD.
Being entirely objective here, there is no downside to this for them (unless they manage to screw up this port as hard as the Chrono Trigger PC port, and then they get more bad press/lost faith). Very little effort is likely involved to release this on PS4, and probably a lot of people will buy it. It's the entire SE release strategy for the past years. Yes it's lazy and uninspired but if it costs them nothing it's not really hurting anyone.
From a fan perspective all I can do is sigh and hope the release of XVI isn't a trainwreck like XV's was.
SE releases a harmless iOS port onto consoles.
A 5+ year old game is ported to the Switch though?
BG in a nutshell.
Monetary wise, no there isn't a downside.
But SE has a huge problem with perceived brand strength. Stuff like this does not help when you have continued re-re-re-releases of the same game that had P.R. problems from the get go - even in ignoring the Versus switch. Coupled with shoddy port missteps like Trigger, and a malaise that is well established over "another mobile port" being tossed onto the pyre just doesn't give the brand the weight it did not even 10 years ago.
Then you have companies like Atlus not giving two fracks in going up against the big boss only to have SE shirk away and conveniently push the game back again.
I bet the Switch port alone will match the other 3 Pocket version releases in sales, and it is a quick buck for SE. Their internal problems are way bigger than what a few extra bucks will help solve with how they approach development, and they don't seem - in my eyes - to be learning that lesson one bit.
