Can't tell if there's a hurricane or not from Austin.
Can't tell if there's a hurricane or not from Austin.
Short of "after just getting back from Whataburger" i cant think how to make that more Texan
I mean...does it matter if your shit didn't get stolen if you died trying to protect it?

NOOOOOOOOOOOO
Bayous/creeks/rivers all starting to break banks. ~5 inches of rain an hour in some parts of Houston.
LOLOnly one employee was at the restaurant when the fire started. Franklin didn’t want to name the person, but insisted his employee was not at fault. “Anybody who cooks with fire the way we do is kidding themselves if they don’t think this is a possibility,” he said. As for the employee, he was predictably shaken up. Franklin sent him home with a bottle of whiskey and advised him to get some rest.
Franklin's BBQ is the biggest loss from Harvey.
I hope he's back soon. I'm headed to Austin soon-ish
The water is starting to go down more than the rain is giving where I'm at. 6:45 AM was fucking hell moving stuff above ground.
Edit: Houston's Downtown area and I-610 East area tho.....JFC
Houston is going to be underwater soon. They are at 24+ inches and another 25 inches expected.
NJ Task Force 1 activated. Now to sit by the phone for 48 hours and wait for an assignment. Shits crazy, gonna be an awful drive in what's basically a fire truck that tops out at 55.
Was told earlier today most of my unit (including myself) is on the list as well, just waiting til we potentially get activated.
What would either of you be doing if you don't mind sharing

No clue until assignments. We're attached to a few units, a rescue mci supply & logistics truck, asap Polaris vehicles for rescue and transfer from shit to safe, and rescue apparatus. So it could be anything from rescues to supplies to inbetweens. Due to our training we can theoretically be pulled into the usar shit but they should have enough.
The issue is that there is a 2 week max on deployment, so if this is a month to multi month process they could just have us be the next 2 week crew to relieve pretty much any team which also is very likely.
In my case I'd imagine setting up the communication infrastructure for the Coast Guard or any other agencies. Most of us on the list at our particular unit are used to do doing it everytime Obama went on vacation at the Vineyard, setting up a comm center for the Secret Service to coordinate with the Coast Guard.
Could also be doing "standard" relief stuff, but I'd wager the comms stuff will be my main job.

Fairly casual word choice from the NWS.
