South primary levee in Houston just got breached.
We're way beyond the worst case scenario already, but this is just about the worst possible thing that could happen at this point.
They're still projecting another foot or more of rain right?
Yeah, at least.
They're also predicting one to two feet of rain in Louisiana, battering the already severely damaged infrastructure from Katrina.
After that, most of Mississippi up through west Tennessee (and my house) are forecast to get around a foot of rain by Saturday, which will definitely cause massive flooding here in Memphis. We live about 5 feet above sea level on the Mississippi River. If that storm goes up the river and drops 12'' on it basically all of downtown is going to be underwater.
There's going to be widespread chaos from this come this weekend, and that's BEFORE the water recedes. Once that water goes down is when you're going to see the true horrors.
In a fairly macabre twist of fate, New Orleans is remembering their 12th anniversary of Katrina by facing imminent landfall from Harvey.
August 29th is not a good day for New Orleans.
This. They straight up tweeted that their church was flooded, but people on twitter were posting photos showing otherwise. Hell there is a ramp that leads up to the church and there was no flood water in sight. The underground parking garage may have been flooded, but not the church itself.
Also to add insult to injury, I heard Joel Osteen busted out his Luxury yacht and sailed it through the flooded areas to pass out copies of his book "Your Best Life Now" to stranded flood survivors instead of, you know, rescuing them..
It's a fuckin nightmare out there. I have friends with family trapped in "safe" areas but are surrounded by flooding.
Lots of friends lost their homes in all of this too.
Yah talked to one of my Sisters earlier and she said where they are is pretty much an island. Luckily all my family there has stayed dry.
This requires video before I believe it. Not because I don't believe he would do it (I do) but because in today's day and age, anything like that without video seems like a lie or someone trying to instigate.
Also lol at him opening the church for "a couple hundred" people when it seats 16k.

Houston's Best Buy doing their part in the Harvey relief effort.
Price gouging through incompetence rather than malice it would seem. Still gouging though, so fuck 'em.“This was a big mistake on the part of a few employees at one store on Friday,” a Best Buy spokesman said in a statement to The Hill. “As a company we are focused on helping, not hurting affected people. We’re sorry and it won’t happen again.”
“Not as an excuse but as an explanation, we don’t typically sell cases of water. The mistake was made when employees priced a case of water using the single-bottle price for each bottle in the case,” the statement continued.
Well the pricing does match up. So probably stupid employee that just managed to give Best Buy a shit ton of negative press.
I feel like someone should link that BB to this: https://www.texasattorneygeneral.gov/cpd/price-gouging
