Official death total @ 20.
the death count seems (forgive me) rather low considering how large the hurricane is and the fact its hit quite a few towns. katrina was so long ago i can't recall.... is the low death count normal at this point of time, and will suddenly spike as the months go on and the damage sinks in and bodies are found? or is our response this time much better?
I feel bad for all the people displaced by Katrina who moved to Houston 12 years ago, only to go through this again.
Interesting article about Houston's inadequate flood water management systems.

Harvey has now set a record for the most rainfall from a hurricane in the US at 51.88in.

Multiple explosions at a chemical plant in Crosby, 10 hospitalized.
That doesn't really change the fact that Houston's flood prevention systems were woefully inadequate for a city located in a wetland flood plain below sea level.
"Nothing could have withstood this" is not a defense against better preparation.
There's one foolproof safety precaution, build for 10,000 year storm predictions.
Duh.
Clearly it's time to engineer floating continents that hover above the clouds. Can't get flooded if you can't get rained on!
Yeah, but then you have to deal with Lavos.
Pence to visit this weekend.
Pence is going today I thought? Trump going back this weekend.
Think Irma will become a Hurricane today out in the Atlantic. One path has it going westward wrecking all those nice islands, DR/PR and Cuba, the other has it going northwest towards north Carolina and the east coast. It's still really far out there.
Fun times.
Ahh, yes. Looks like Rockport specifically.
