FFRK - The Shadow Stirs (XI) Event & Strategies

Why are we getting 2 characters from 2 different expansions when there is a perfectly good support unit and major character from one of these said expansions?

Luzaf getting left in the lurch hurts inversely proportional to a Penta-whiff Dragoon after the TP "buffs".

Zeid? Really?! Why wasn't he included with Ayame/Curilla? Alas...

"Does your blade shine with darkness?" - Zeid
"Don't worry! I know exactly what I'm doing." - Aphmau

There isn't any flavor text on Kongbakpao for this event, but come on, this is FFXI. There is a 90% chance this is the game that brought ya'll to BG in the first place. Let's reminisce a little bit.

We have the original edgelord in Zeid, who was the center of the DRK unlock quest and main player in the original campaign and Rise of Zilart.

We also have the Itty Bitty Titty Committee founder, Aphmau, who is a royal puppeteer for the Empire of Aht Urghan, controlling the automatons Ovjang and Mnejing who seem to act on their own...

    Event Start Date: August 24

    Characters Needed for Battles

    Cid Missions
Complete Ultimate++ fight with a party of FFXI heroes.

    Relics
This is the most recent FFXI event for JP, but if you've been sparse on XI synergy so far it's possible you need to weigh that against the 30th Anniversary and other event banners coming up. But again, this is also the most recent XI event even in JP.

    Banner 1:
Aphmau honestly gets some nifty toys for the XI realm. Her USB is a decent instant Curaga + haste with 1 charge of CT0 for the party. Her BSB is only a Cura medica on entry, but does provide a generally stackable Mag/Mnd boost.

Her commands come with a toggle though: Cmd1 is a Cura heal and "on" switch, which also does 4x mind based thunder/non elemental damage. Cmd2 is a Cura media when "off", and adds 2 hits of ST mind based thunder/non damage when "on". Her SSB is a serviceable Astra + High Regen.

Not Luzaf's BSB is a single target 8x dark/non entry with 100% stun and En-dark. His Cmd1 follows Basch's in that it deal an additional hit if the target is weak to darkness, and Cmd2 is a 2x AoE dark/non attack with Atk/Def bargain. Little bit of a mix between Leon and Basch, tbh. His SSB deal more damage when he is lower on HP, but heals back 40% of his max HP upon use. The entry is 8x dark/ice single target.

Honestly, Curilla is the real #2 on this banner. Her USB is a party Atk/Mag/Def boost with Radiant Shield, and her party Atk/Def BSB and % based medica/esuna SSB both return.

Shantotto's self quickcast 5 SSB also shows up to round things out.

    Banner 2:
Lion gains a instant pentabreak USB that also bestows 2x CT0 on her. The CT0 is nice, but a lot of what you would use her for (USB, BSB) is already instant so it's mostly a mitigation ploy to help get everything else set up.

Ayame also gains her missing BSB, as synistar points out (and I honestly overlooked). En-Ice and a self Atk/Res boost on entry plays nice with Hailstorm. Cmd1 goes off at Thief ability speeds and is 4x of ice/non damage, while Cmd2 is 2x AoE hits with an Atk/Def bargain.

Most of the rest here is stuff we received in the previous FFXI event. Of note is Lion's Atk debuff BSB, Prische's Last Stand/Medica/High Regen, and Ayame's original realm Hastega (though with only a self Atk buff).

    Legend Materias:
Banner 1 - Curilla: Moderate chance to cover an ally taking damage, with a 20% reduction in damage received.
Banner 1 - Aphmau: Small chance to cast HP Stock 2k when using White Magic healing abilities on an ally.

Banner 2 - Ayame: Moderate chance to self quickcast 1 when using Samurai abilities.
Banner 2 - Lion: Small duration increase to status debuffs cast by Lion.

Notes: Also entriely physical. Also a fight where some actions can stun, but nothing is too dangerous.

    Weak: None
    Absorbs: None
    Resist: None
    Null: None
    Vulnerabilities: None

Notes: Similar to the previous time we fought this guy. After certain HP thresholds, he will switch between being immune to magic or physical damage. So remember to bring both damage types and the rest of the fight isn't too terrible.

He does have mixed attacks himself though, and can silence characters while in his magic immune forms and slow in his physical immune forms.

(V Weak only) Hammer Punch (PHY: ST 422% physical)
(V Weak only) Crush (PHY: 2T 400% physical)
(V Weak only) Roar (NAT: AOE 400% ranged physical)
(V Weak only) 凶 Roar (NAT: AOE 400% piercing0.5 physical)

Notes and Strategies: He has some pretty nasty attacks, so you will want both physical and magical mitigation here. The ice weakness helps a little.

Mage teams will want some dispel, because it can cast Shell on itself.

The good news is that his attacks are pretty patterned out.

Default Phase: 凶Minotaurus uses Armor on its 1st turn, the weaker Attack on its 2nd turn, Full Flight Lower on its 4th turn, and Buckswish on its 5th turn.

Weak Phase: 凶Minotaurus uses 凶 Full Flight Lower on its 1st turn, Stonega on its 2nd turn, and 凶 Mow Down on its 3rd turn and every 6th turn thereafter.

Very Weak Phase: 凶Minotaurus uses 凶 Full Flight Lower on its 1st turn, Stonega on its 2nd turn, and 凶 Mow Down on its 3rd turn and every 4th turn thereafter.

Earth resist accessories can take a good bit of bite out of the magic attacks, but still bring both mitigation effects.

Roar Which Shatters The Land (U++)
    凶Sabretooth Tiger
    HP: HP: 301,949
    Target Score:
    • Reduce 凶Sabretooth Tiger's attack.
    • Exploit the 凶Sabretooth Tiger's weakness to thunder attacks.
    • Exploit the 凶Sabretooth Tiger's weakness to dark attacks.

    Weak: Thunder, Dark
    Absorbs: None
    Resist: None
    Null: MA-X: None
    Vulnerabilities: None

    Moveset:
(Default only) Attack (PHY: ST 110% physical)
Razor Fang (PHY: ST 422% physical)
Claw Cyclone (NAT: AOE 206% physical, 2 hits)

(Default/Weak only) Attack (PHY: ST 188% physical, 2 hits)
(Default/Weak only) Roar (NAT: AOE Paralyze, 21% chance)

(Weak/V Weak only) 凶 Razor Fang (NAT: ST 500% physical, 33% chance to Sap)
(Weak/V Weak only) 凶 Claw Cyclone (NAT: AOE 180% piercing0.5 physical, 2 hits)

Notes and Strategies: Everything here is physical.

凶 Claw Cyclone is the real danger here, so as much physical mitigation here as possible is a good idea. He spams it (both the normal and 凶 versions) as he gets low on HP.

Otherwise, Roar can cause Paralyze at a 21% chance so bring those accessories...especially on your healer.

Cid Mission: Physical only here helps with ability slots for damage if you're attempting this with a bare bones synergy setup. Mug Bloodlust can help deal with a lot of damage, and even then 2 healers may become a necessity.

Not sure about the promise of using Cid Raines BSB RW Way, but with the darkness weakness it may be a good option. Otherwise rely on self boosting abilities like Hailstorm and Steal Power to get that damage boost. Cid's BSB would also help with the Def boost but would leave you without a hastega.

Like the normal fight, paralyze accessories are suggested for the CM. Or Affliction Break. Or Both.

Save as much burst damage for the end as possible.

    Mad Dusk Blade (Apocalypse +)
    滅Lich
    HP: 456,619
    Target Score:
    • Reduce 滅Lich's attack.
    • Reduce 滅Lich's defense.
    • Exploit 滅Lich's weakness to holy attacks.

    Weak: Holy (150%)
    Absorbs: None
    Resist: All except Fire
    Null: None
    Vulnerabilities: None

    Moveset:
(Default only) Attack (PHY: ST 100% physical)
(Default only) Blizzaga (BLK: AOE 342% magical ice)
(Default/Weak only) Water II (BLK: ST 490% magical water)

Blood Shaver (NAT: ST 410% magical dark, recover 100% of damage as HP)
Stone III (BLK: ST 570% magical earth)

(Weak only) Tornado (BLK: ST 570% magical wind, 303% chance to Imperil Ice [2 stages, 20 seconds])
(Weak only) Blizzaga (BLK: AOE 410% magical ice)

(Weak/V Weak only) 凶 Horror Cloud (NAT: BRAOE Slow, 63% chance)
(Weak/V Weak only) 凶 Tornado (NAT: AOE 390% magical wind, 303% chance to Imperil Ice [2 stages, 20 seconds])
(Weak/V Weak only) Sleepga (BLK: FRAOE Sleep, 36% chance)

(Very Weak only) Blizzaga (BLK: AOE 500% magical ice)

Notes and Strategies: Affliction Break does work on the ice imperil, so do not forget that. Ice accessories won't save you much if you're 60% weak, not to mention you also have to worry about wind, dark, and water magic attacks.

On top of that, the row specific spells come back. Front row characters will have to deal with sleepga while back row characters deal with slowga.

The good news is that the dangerous attacks are magical in nature. Vaan can do a lot of work here with his BSB and Celes/Exdeath can make good use of Runic - especially in early stages.

Jump Start Notes: You've got a decently easy JS here if you have a solid Holy team.

Cloud USB strat you used for Belias works, but an all-in offensive strat may be upset by some wayward RNG. 450k HP isn't a whole lot to chew through either.

Also Ayame BSB finally debuts a few months late. En-ice on a physical character. Also unique ATK bargain on C2 that stacks with nearly everything. And burst commands are thf speed.

And Kuro definitely going to try and get that O. Kote that evaded him during the last XI banner.

If this is what our tigers are, then I can't even imagine how evil Byakko would be if they implemented him!

    Poverty setup for XI CM.

No unique SB's. No shared medica shenanigans. STT would hit for just under 1k/hit (~1.8k total) on backrow characters through protect, Raines BSB def boost, and steal power.

Curilla hastes herself to start, and then uses the magic hat SB. I recasted it around 50%. Prische and Curilla are easily able to handle healing even with gimped mnd.

Shantotto and Aphmau were both hitting 5.5k/hit on BSB commands, using Raines RW. Shantotto went first, because I had Aphmau heal for a round out of necessity. Chain Thundaga was hitting damage cap. Lion was nearing 8k on ninja magic.
