NFL doesn't have a committee picking beauty pageant winners and losers on loose guidelines and no set criteria year to year.
11-5 feasted on weak divisions while 8-8 TCB in house. Simple.
Wait, UCF is in a power 5 conference now?
Take the power 5 regular-season conference winners based on win/loss record only, then add the best 3 remaining teams from the Power 5 based on w/l. The Group of 5 is garbage and should not be considered for this exercise, and neither should Notre Dame.
So the Boise States of the world are just relegated to mid-tier, forever unable to have a shot?
The NFL conference/division system is set up to have a set rule as to who can make the playoffs. Chiefly, you win your division. If you cant by some fluke, there are 2 wildcard options for best record that you can play for. This encourages to take care of business where it matters most - going 6-0 in division play - ahead of feasting on a particularly bad division that year based on scheduling luck.
College operates on a premise that because you're a name recognition team you get elevated above others. Granted, that holds true 95% of the time. I'm not going to feign it and say UCF is objectively better than Alabama because they are not. Bama wins that game 95 times out of 100. Though locking out legit good teams like 00's Boise State is terrible and bad for the sport.
You already have 5 conferences that play 3 drastically different types of football. If the goal is to crown a champion of all college football, the current system only achieves it with the asterisk that it's also one of the teams the committee likes. Winning your conference is the best, most objective way to decide who is the best regional champion instead of this look test, "feeling" junk that steered us away from the BCS in the first place.
Make every team join a conference, have 8-16 conferences, winners play in.
Done.
Also fuck Notre Dame.
Oregon has hired Mario Cristobal to replace Willie Taggart as their HC.

Scott Frost named AP Coach of the Year
So, Reddit broke a pretty big story on FSU not actually being bowl eligible, the NCAA acknowledging the fuckup, and they’ll play anyway.
https://www.reddit.com/r/CFB/comment...bowl_eligible/
Florida State is scheduled to play in a record 36th consecutive bowl game, the Independence Bowl, against Southern Miss on December 27. Their 6-6 record includes a win over Delaware State, an FCS program. For an FCS opponent to be countable towards bowl eligibility, the FCS program must have awarded at least 90% of the FCS scholarship limit. After our own investigation, we have determined and confirmed that Delaware State has not met the 90% threshold set by the NCAA. As a result, Florida State's bowl countable record is 5-6, thus making them ineligible for a bowl game this season.
Not sure how I feel about that. On one hand, it's FSU's fault they suck and only won 6 games. On the other hand, it's not their fault they scheduled an opponent a long time ago who this year didn't make their scholarship quota. I understand why that rule would be in place, but it seems very minor at this point.
Something like that sounds like it should be very easy to "tag" schools that are not at the requirement at the start of the year to avoid this very issue.
Makes me wonder if they dismissed someone and it brought them under 90%, or if they added walk-ons and diluted the pool of players enough to be under 90%.
