Press ReleaseSet in an alternate history where masked vigilantes are treated as outlaws, WATCHMEN, from executive producer Damon Lindelof (Emmy® winner for “Lost”; HBO’s “The Leftovers”) embraces the nostalgia of the original groundbreaking graphic novel of the same name, while attempting to break new ground of its own. Nicole Kassell directs the pilot from a script written by Lindelof.
Debuting in October, WATCHMEN reunites Lindelof with Regina King (HBO’s “The Leftovers”; Oscar® winner for “If Beale Street Could Talk”; Emmy® winner for “Seven Seconds” and “American Crime”; Golden Globe winner for “If Beale Street Could Talk”). King leads the cast as Angela Abar, who wears two masks; one as a lead detective in The Tulsa Police Force and another as wife and mother of three. The cast also includes Jeremy Irons (Oscar® winner for “Reversal of Fortune”; Emmy® winner for “Big Cat Week” and “Elizabeth I”) as the aging and imperious Lord of a British Manor; Don Johnson (Golden Globe winner for “Miami Vice”) as Judd Crawford, Tulsa Chief of Police; Jean Smart (Emmy® winner for “Samantha Who?” and “Frasier”) as FBI Agent Laurie Blake; Tim Blake Nelson as Detective Looking Glass; Louis Gossett Jr. (Oscar® winner for “An Officer and a Gentleman”; Emmy® winner for “Roots”) as Will Reeves; Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Cal Abar; Tom Mison as Mr. Phillips; Frances Fisher as Jane Crawford and Sara Vickers as Ms. Crookshanks. Additional cast include Hong Chau as Lady Trieu, the mysterious trillionaire, Andrew Howard, Jacob Ming-Trent, Dylan Schombing and James Wolk.
Produced for HBO by White Rabbit in association with Warner Bros. Television; executive producer/writer Damon Lindelof; executive producer/director, Nicole Kassell; executive producer, Tom Spezialy; executive producer/director, Stephen Williams; executive producer, Joseph Iberti. Based on the iconic graphic novel co-created and illustrated by Dave Gibbons and published by DC.
Considering I live in the city this takes place in, I feel like I have to watch this.
I really enjoyed the pilot.
No spoilers, but there were a ton of Easter eggs and references to past vigilantes. Also, I guess I wasn’t aware but this for sure follows the graphic novel rather than the movie. I’m pretty excited for what’s to come.
Even growing up in Tulsa, and learning about the 1921 Race Massacre, I was not ready for that opening.
I hope HBO drops the first episode online.
I'm really enjoying this show.
Not sure why they haven't announced that Jeremy Irons is Ozymandias. It's almost like they are waiting to reveal something that everyone knows, which will make for a really anticlimactic reveal. The people who don't know the story won't care, and it's so glaringly obvious to the rest of us that it's making me wonder if he's not actually Veidt.
I love all the details thrown into the show. There was a news article declaring "Adrian Veidt Officially Declared Dead" or something along those lines. All the squid-fall headlines. Reminds me a lot of the novel where backstory and events were composed on news headlines but never front-and-center (like papers in a stack, or someone in the background reading a paper, etc). Too on the nose with the genetic engineering stuff, but I think we all know who Jeremy Irons is meant to be, unless it's a total red herring.
i want to like this show but jesus the dialogue physically pains me. jean smart showing up makes the show much much better, hope it starts picking up soon
This show just keeps getting weirder, but it's certainly working for me. Jeremy Irons seems to be having the time of his life.
Lady Trieu is an interesting new character. The new Ozymandias? That seems too obvious.
episode was fine, some really good action sequences but the dialogue is as garbage as ever.
