I honestly think that Sam B carried the spirit of the Stewart run the best. Her show is basically his except it's entirely gender swapped.

RIP the ACA

tl;dr:
Trump is allowing low price/coverage stopgap insurance plans to cover people for almost a year. It only needs to last 10 months to let people buy it and avoid the Obamacare penalties. This effectively destroys the individual mandate and will consequently undermine the individual markets. He is also making it cheaper to go uninsured altogether, which drives at the same point but seems administratively difficult for companies.
So, recession incoming and it'll still be Obama's fault.
AFLAC ABOUT TO BE LIT
Politico is reporting that Trump is going to sabotage the subsidies next week, which will certainly crash the markets and kill Obamacare, forcing millions off their insurance, likely abruptly.
Unless Congress passes a law . . . .
Lol we're fucked
Now WaPo is also reporting it.
This is going to be catastrophic and will lead to a measurable loss of life. However, Trump destroying private insurance options really does clear the way for a public option.
Something like 70% of Americans get healthcare through their employers and much of the remainder gets it through Medicare/caid, so this isn't going to push insurance companies under but will likely stop them from participating in the market for the remaining population. BTW they have three weeks to decide before the fifth open enrollment phase starts.
Congress has to do a rush job on healthcare? What could go wrong?
Yeah the executive branch is strangling Obamacare.
I'm kinda surprised they announced this. I thought his plan was to make it look like the ACA was failing on it's own.
It will in a few years.
It won't wait a few years. I bet providers pull out before this open enrollment period.
Are you fucking serious?
The most devastating part about this is that this decision came after insurers had to set their prices for the year, which priced in some of the risk of this happening, but they're still going to come away with a loss unless they sue for the money (which, according to some people, is legally required under the wording of the law). So long-term, the government may end up having to make these payments anyway, but in the meantime it will wreak havoc with the individual markets and spill over into everybody else's premiums.
I see people on my Facebook feed celebrating this.
Like, talk about short-fucking-sighted-ness.
Won't matter. It will still be Obummer's fault because Trump is clearly trying to save the American healthcare system with this move.
It's pretty republican to sabotage a program, then run on the fact that the program doesn't work, and then get elected for it.
I really just want to start pushing healthcare at the state level, I truly believe it's just not going to happen federally anymore, and am just going to refocus my agenda to pushing state based options.
I find the whole situation just disgusting.
