Added source. The whole article is great. Doctors suggest psychological therapy and medications and claim that parents tell them that their children are dropping out of school to play more games.

Considering you hear reports of people like dying at gaming centers (China) or parents who stop feeding/changing their babies to play games, it sounds plausible.
Like all hobbies, interest can go too far.
Frankly, I'm still waiting for more regulation and wrist slapping about gacha/lootboxes. That shit is literal gambling within gaming.
I'm not. Sure outrage was high this time but it was more just a pushed it a little too far with too many people. But people have been "fine" with this for a good decade now. Longer if you consider tcgs are exactly the same gamble to win structure minus the digital element
I oppose these things not because of any concern for gambling addiction and the like but solely on the grounds of shit game design.
There are some valid points to be had about this.
Seems pretty silly though.
Fiye admitting games are a waste of time on a gaming forum? Lol

You're insinuating that gaming gives you nothing for your time or effort, whereas with gambling you have a chance of walking out with money. I disagree, cause I think entertainment is worth something, but you phrase it as gaming having no value.
I mean technically it doesn't, but I assign a value to entertainment so it's cool.
Holy fucking jesus christ Salodin I'm not putting value on the fucking enjoyment of the game I'm putting that value on you opening up a stupid fucking chest for polygons or pixels or +15 to whatever fucking god damn stat that game designers get to set whatever fucking abritrary fucking value that will probably be hidden rather than put out by some regulated comission like here. https://www.americancasinoguide.com/...cs.html#Nevada
Stay mad bro. Living up to that libtard label.
Fyi i wasn't insulting you, just saying your comment insinuated that there is no value in these magic pixels on your screen. Obviously there is.

I'm mad because I'm bothering to engage in a fucking idiotic conversation with you because the value of the gacha box is fucking imaginary and doesn't impede your ability to play the game because said game is already downloaded and ready to play and you're deriving entertainment off of glowing gifs with hidden percent chances (Unless the game is also marketed to china where there's a fucking law that makes them reveal said odds) of getting the glowy weapon or super fancy bikini suit costume for your favorite jpeg. Its a blatant attempt at abusing the addictive qualities of gambling with the added bonus of keeping 100% of whatever gets thrown into the system.
Nigga you say the value of a gatcha box is imaginary meanwhile I'm here waiting for Shenmue 3 to collect some more gatcha prizes.
Checkmate libtard.

Also, stay mad.

I'm not even content with just revealing the odds.
Pretty much my major beef with the rise of the model is that instead of creating a quest line for the acquisition (and related improvements) for something like a new character, they just slap it into a shop and call it a day. Story telling, world building, and all that is pretty much sacrificed for the sake of a quick buck. And to add insult to injury, since we don't "own" any of this, a game shutting down pretty much means byebye to the investment of both time and money.
But we're going pretty off topic at this point, unless we want to label corporate greed as a medical condition.
Fiye is not owed a game where they avoid continually generating revenue with loot boxes. It sucks for older gaming enthusiasts, but most don't care because most aren't affected by it.
Targeting children with gambling like practices is shady as fuck though. You can create a new monetization model without that though.

Targeting kids to get them to spend their parents money has been and will always be the main goal of game and toy developers.
They're just now also finding ways to target the parents directly.
