It doesnt just piss you off, it increases your premiums but is also a sad reality that a lot of rural hospitals have stayed afloat over the past decade only because of schemes like this. Without the extra income from these "angel investors", the communities in question lose their closest and often times only reasonably located hospital.

    Healthcare sucks lol

We had 2 local hospitals shut down within like 2 months of each. Not sure that was any sort of factor, but it's been obvious the remaining 2 can't really handle the overflow. Next closest is about 30m away, while Pittsburgh has been the oshit place for major procedures or emergencies.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has taken another whack at former first lady Michelle Obama’s signature achievement: Establishing stricter nutritional standards for school breakfasts and lunches. And on her birthday.

On Friday, USDA Deputy Under Secretary Brandon Lipps proposed new rules for the Food and Nutrition Service that would allow schools to cut the amount of vegetables and fruits required at lunch and breakfasts while giving them license to sell more pizza, burgers and fries to students. The agency is responsible for administering nutritional programs that feed nearly 30 million students at 99,000 schools.

You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

TBH, I think Obama's policy was a bust, and we have to rethink how we get kids to eat healthier.

It's easy to just say, "Offer healthy choices and they'll be healthier!" when the reality is the kids just throw the lunches away and either go without lunch or eat something worse like a cup of noodles they brought from home. (What is overwhelming a problem at my school site).

I don't think the Dept.'s response solves the problem either. But tbh I'd rather a kid eat a burger at school than bringing a back of chips from home or some shit.

Part of the problem, btw, is that schools don't get a lot of funding for lunches, so while they might fit all the healthy requirements, they're plain, unappealing and tasteless.

Oldish article an how kids are just throwing more food away than before and ignoring the veggies:

Starting in July, MN will offer an affordable payment plan for people who struggle to pay for insulin.

Gov. Tim Walz signed a compromise measure Wednesday a day after the Legislature passed it by wide margins.

After the law takes effect in July, people struggling to afford the medication will have access to 30-day supplies with a small co-pay. Those with deeper financial issues can tap into a long-term program. Drugmakers that don’t make affordable insulin available will face steep fines.

The Minnesota Nurses Association have announced a march on the state capitol demanding an extension of equipment, training, and staffing to deal with covid. The march was announced after a nurse was fired for using hospital scrubs instead of scrubs from home.

Nurses at United Hospital have reported they’ve been disciplined for wearing hospital-issued surgical scrubs instead of their own, because they are worried about carrying the virus home and infecting their families and loved ones.

Cliff Willmeng, 50, said he was terminated on Friday for violating hospital policies and expectations, because he wore hospital-issued scrubs and intervened on behalf of other nurses who were disciplined for doing so.

“Hospital-issued scrubs are an infection prevention measure,” Willmeng said. “That's why they're in the hospital.”

Willmeng, an emergency department nurse and union steward, said the incident is part of a pattern of hospital administrators placing profits over the protection of employees.

In a statement, Allina Health, which owns United, said it's following the latest state and federal guidance on personal protective equipment, and doesn’t consider hospital-issued scrubs to be PPE.

Most seniors on Medicare plans will pay no more than $35 for a month's worth of insulin under a new agreement reached by insurers, drug manufacturers and the Trump administration.

More than 1,750 Medicare Part D drug plans and Medicare Advantage plans will cap the cost of insulin copays at $35, saving enrollees an average of $446 per year, according to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).

Glad that the price of this is coming down. My dad is diabetic and needs insulin for the rest of his life. His gets paid through the VA but they’ve screwed up a few times and he had to get it through Medicaid. It can be such a ridiculous cost for something that you need to live.

Big Pharma has filed a federal lawsuit to stop this.

Lawyers for the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America, however, argue that requiring the drug makers to turn over insulin at little or no cost or face fines is draconian and a violation of the Fifth Amendment and Fourteenth Amendment.

“A state cannot simply commandeer private property to achieve its public policy goals,” the lawsuit says.

Anyone know anything that isn’t speculation/trash about neurotropics or medically backed studies about what is/isn’t effective?
