    FFRK - Borrowed Dreams (VIII) Event & Strategies



    "You guys...sure have guts. You know how high this cliff is...!?" - Laguna

    When Laguna, Kiros, and Ward went on an ill-fated mission to the Centra Excavation Site they became separated. Laguna was gravely injured and was left recovering in Winhill, being cared for by a woman called Raine.

    After Kiros found him, he claimed to have been bored without Laguna and Ward.

    Kiros helped Laguna on his daily patrols to rid of the monsters around town. When Ellone, a young girl Laguna had become acquainted with, was kidnapped by Esthar Soldiers, Kiros accompanied Laguna and Ward to rescue her.

    Events remain a touch out of order, especially since we're now getting Bra Bra and possibly even some of the long lost collab events.

    All information is taken from a mixture of Reddit/Spreadsheets/Kongpakbao Site and my own obviously expert analysis.

    Though the information provided is used as a guideline and not always taken directly from the thread. When necessary, additional thoughts on Cid Missions and battle strategies are added.

    Notable Rewards:
    Timber Maniacs - 5* Accessory. Moderate resistance to sleep and stop.

    Frost Offering - Machinist. Deal 2 physical ranged attacks to a target with a moderate chance to inflict minor imperil-ice.

    • Complete 'Centra Excavation Site (Classic)' with a party of Laguna, Kiros, and Ward.
    • Complete EX+ 'Knight's Knight' in a 4 person party using only FF8 characters and include Laguna.
    • Complete 凶+ 'Destruction Without Retreat' using only FF8 characters and include Laguna.

    Back to the 3 LM format. Expect this to keep shifting because DeNa is event shuffling, but understand that this is the current "proper" banner format.

    Banner 1:

    A lot of Ice and Dark on banner 1.

    Do note that Laguna's gun is +Ice. Awesome for Machinists, not awesome for anyone else. That said, his Ultra is pretty frosty in a good way. 7 AoE hits on entry with imperil-ice, an Atk/Res boost on Laguna, and 3x fast cast. Additionally, the "gain cast speed charges when using X ability or element" finally gets a technical title in 'cycle' as the counterpart to 'chases'. Under Laguna's EX mode and other related effects, when Laguna uses an ice element ability his cast speed is reduced for the next 3 uses of abilities.

    Edea's USB is similar to her BSB, but makes better use of Witch commands. 10x ST ice/dark hits paired with a Mag/Res boost and en-ice. Additionally, any Witch abilities Edea uses under this effect will doublecast as the cost of 2 ability uses. Her BSB and en-dark SSB return.

    Kiros BSB entries with a party Atk/Mag boost and 10x ST ice/dark damage. His commands both carry reduced cast time (and are actually Support abilities - not Celerity or Ninja) with Cmd1 being Armor BD and Cmd2 Mental BD. His SSB is the standard support Pentabreak, but it is AoE.

    Ward has his BSB show up with earth/wind typing and AoE entry with en-earth. The typing can be a boon or bane, with earth being a rare element but no non-elemental to fall back on. His Cmd1 has a iteration use, decreasing the cast time with each successive use and no air time while Cmd2 is an Atk/Def bargain. Additionally, his Cmd1 has no air time even though its a jump and both commands are AoE. His SSB is a Last Stand effect paired with a party Boostga.

    Rinoa's BSB2 rounds out this banner.

    Banner 2:

    Chicken Wuss Banner.

    Zell's USB enters with 12 (yes, 12) hits of ST fire/non damage. He gains en-fire, Atk/Def 30%, and his EX Mode Burning Blow chases critical hits with 4x ST fire/non attacks. Also, the USB is instant and the gloves come with a built in fire boost. His BSB and Ehrgeiz SSB return as well for your crit fix needs.

    Raijin gains a gradient buildup OSB that is reliant on Monk ability uses - gaining up to 400% to bring total potency to 1450. Lightning/non typing is okay, but there are better OSB's and if you're bringing Raijin you likely have his Last Stand or BSB for him to use anyways - both of which also show up here.

    Laguna's SSB lightning imperil is also here for some reason.

    Fujin has her important toys show back up, with her BSB and SSB.

    Legend Materias:
    • Banner 1 - Laguna: 20% chance for Machinist abilities to inflict a minor imperil ice.
    • Banner 1 - Edea: 35% chance to gain shortcharge 1 when using ice elemental abilities.
    • Banner 1 - Mag boost buildup. Black Magic hits, Mag+1% -> 20%.

    • Banner 2 - Zell: Begin battle with crit fix 50%.
    • Banner 2 - Raijin: 35% chance to gain shortcharge 1 when using Monk abilities.
    • Banner 2 - Fujin: Begin battle with en-wind.

    Notes: Sphinxara will appear after Sphinxaur is defeated. Eventually, Sphinxara will summon one of each add (one at a time). Only Sphinxara needs to be defeated to win. All adds can be Instant KO'ed - so keep that in mind.

    Catoblepas uses Meteor as an interrupt when defeated, but none of its attacks are very potent.

    Notes: You've been here before. Fight hasn't changed. Fire and wind magical damage with some physical hits to keep you honest. It can reflect, so bring a dispel if you're carrying mages.

    • Defeat the Oilboyles without being KO'ed.
    • Reduce an Oilboyle's attack.

    Notes: Mostly a physical fight, but the Oilboyles can counter any attack with a ST current %HP black magic ability. They can also blind at a low rate and AoE sap.

    A token physical attack, everything else is magical with his AoE attack being wind based.

    Notes and Strategies: The ST Blizzara is a little more than a token magical hit, but with some mitigation you probably don't have to be heavy on the magic BD here.

    Gravity resist may be the order over elemental resist though, because with multiple enemies that gravity damage can add up quick.

    Cid Mission: In needing to bring Laguna, he's probably best using shooter or machinist abilities for their ranged components.

    Without a dancer for the realm, you may want to rely on a support RW for AoE breakdown application. 2 healers may be necessary, as this isn't the toughest version of this fight we've seen but previous versions can churn out damage in wave 2 and 3.

    FF8 isn't low on mages and AoE options though, so if you're short on SB's you can probably get away using well hones summons or Ruinga/Meteor since there isn't a lot of elemental issues you run into here. Titan can go a long ways. A Maria BSB RW strat may as well.

    Token physcial attack. If you can't fit it in, don't worry about Protect so much.

    Same premise as before, just don't let Rinoa die. Know that Adel will cast Ultima on the 1st turn after every phase change, so time those medicas or magic blinks accordingly.

    Jump Start Notes: The stats for the JS are the same, but take note of the medal condition changes. In the JS version you can let Rinoa die and not worry about medals, but the rest of the fight will have Adel in Serious Mode is just Ultima and Meteor spam.

    Apoc: I killed rinoa via aoe but mastered anyway.
    Jumpstart: I didn't kill rinoa but it got pretty close.

    I hate Adel/Rinoa - it's so hard to target the right one since they overlap so annoyingly...

    ...also, I killed her when Squalls LM proc'd and his second set of Lowens targeted Rinoa instead of a Adel, wtf?

    Dualcasted abilities always target the enemy with the lowest amount of health.

    I think it is lowest % health? If you've thrown AOE around or adel is draining then rinoa may be near death anyway.

    Someone posted a PSA on Reddit that if you are doing Apoc + and are trying to keep Rinoa alive, do NOT bring Curada since it will not target enemies, make sure to bring Ultra Cure / Curaja instead.

    Probably the easiest main entry event so far. 1/2 on Ultimate and that's only because I forgot Tactics Cid without his Overstrike is worthless on the fight, and 1/1 on both Jumpstarts. Now to just do the multiplayer raids when I have a spare few minutes.
