Windows update failing

Got a computer that I just recently imaged and had windows updates running over the weekend. Somehow during the update process it rebooted, and now when I try to do the last batch of updates, it keeps giving random error codes that all deal with the system being unable to communicate with the Windows Update Server from Microsoft. I'm pretty much at a loss here as I've tried every possible fix I can find on Google. Restarted the WuService, ran the repair tool, renamed the folder in windowsroot as .old so it would re-create it and still nothing.

hum, did you stop the wuauserv + bits services and kill the contents of windows\softwaredistribution (not sure if that's the folder you're referring to) ?

Could it be trying to install 1709? that thing is a buggy fucking nightmare, tried it on a few computers at work to see, they BSODed hard.

Do you have a wsus (or sccm or intune) in your infrastructure? if so, do you get the same error messages from them as from windowsupdate?

I've got like 4 or 5 that are all doing the same fucking thing, and they all can't get the latest outlook 2013 updates and of course office 365 is being a piece of shit over it.
