That's always a plus. Do milk snakes also go for goldfish? I once had a garter snake as a young lad and I fed it live goldfish that kept in a small fish tank and would leave a few in his water bowl at a time. Watching a snake go fishing is the funniest shit I swear lol

They're generally mammal specialists, but will sometimes take reptiles. Never heard of one going for fish, but it doesn't hurt to let them try for new prey. Kind of unlikely here though.

spent all weekend cleaning and re-outfitting our redfoot tortoise's indoor enclosure. got stupid hot this week, needed to bring her back in to be safe and her setup was way overdue for a deep cleaning. put in a new 24" T5 full spectrum, old one was from when she was a baby.

there's really no sense of scale here; that is a 100 gallon tub. tortoise is probably six, seven inches long straightline and weighs a couple of pounds. she's about half grown.

went to the reptile supershow in anaheim this weekend. i had a specfic shopping list of things i was going to look for, and only managed to find one. but, these are all bucket-list snakes, so it's a win and i'm happy. here's something you don't see every day: Boiga melanota, the western mangrove snake. and a really nice example, too.

he is captive born and bred by Dan from DM Exotics. finally got to meet him (super nice guy, great youtube channel btw) and pick up one of these spicy little guys. i have wanted a mangrove snake since i was about six. there's nothing like them.

Yeah, just the one. He had about a dozen babies I think, and three medium sized WC adults. I asked about pairs, and while he did have two sets of unrelated clutches, his people shipped them mixed so there was no way to know. Better to get the one established and have husbandry locked in before getting a pair. They can be quite spicy as adults, not even all CB are chill as adults.

He's bigger than he looks, about 20" or so. He's just kinda slender. I'll get that sorted out; he's feeding on unscented pinkies and will already take f/t. We should be good to go.

Got the new guy into his quarantine digs. It's been a week since he's fed and I had to pick up chow for the Honduran anyway, so I got him a couple of pinks.

Now these guys are strictly nocturnal, and their behavior is supposed to be very different at night. I hadnt noticed any difference on Saturday night, but these guys do have a pretty significant reputation for being incorrigible douchebags, so I'm cautious.

I go in to check on him half an hour after lights out, just walking up to the enclosure with my phone light shining indirectly and he whips around, bows up in a triple S-curve threat display and BAMBAMBAM strikes at me.

Ok, this is more like what I was expecting. Respect personal space at night, got it.

I check back in an hour to see if he's eaten (of course he hasn't) and he lunged at me from 4 feet away.

    He is a charmer.

Success!! The little monster ate sometime this morning. He ate the one that was already dead, and left the other to slowly die.

feeding #2, no issues. he's only gone batshit at me that first night back at the house. remains docile during the day, i haven't tried to get him out after lights out and we'll probably keep it that way for a while. seems to be thriving.

Huskies, lol. I'll get some new pics of ours later.

Here's a pic of the melanota in his enclosure, about an hour after lights out:

I envy and pity husky owners. On one hand they're beautiful dogs. On the other they're very loud and vocal.

I have a husky pit mix and she’s super vocal but tiny legs so it ends up being more adorable than anything else

The mangrove has graduated from pinks to fuzzies. Incoming growth spurt now that he can eat something with bone structure instead of just little bags of cartilage and blood.

You know ironically she's by far the most quiet and chill dog I've ever had. The talking was at least like 50% of why I picked a husky, and literally the only time she ever makes any noise is when we come home after being gone for less than an hour. Longer than that and she'll go to sleep, then just be chill when we get home.
